Anyone here make use of their KJ's interior ceiling space..with a custom rack or cargo net..or other storage device..large or small?? It always looks so empty...it seems like such a waste of space!!! ((Can you tell I'm running out of room for all my cr@p????)) |

i actually used some tie down straps and held my beach umbrellas and chairs to the inside roof .We had bad weather expected on our way to the beach. Also did the same thing with a mattress that I bought in Ikea 60 miles away from home on a night it was pouring down rain. |

Wonder what would happen if you got in a wreck? Seems like a neat mod. |

Ya, thats always the issue, is that umbrella going to hit you in the back of the head during a panic stop? Just got to be sure that everything is secure. |

Yeah, I want to mount stuff up there too, but I haven't figured out a good and safe way to do it either. I would mostly want to keep it in the cargo area though because of clearance for heads in back and mine up front. Not a problem for my wife though, she's only 5'2" -I am 6'3". |

The headliner isn't too sturdy... What ever you put up there would need to be light weight. |

or a roof rack, I was wanting more storage too so when I made my rear bumper I went ahead and added a waterproof ammo box to it for some extra storage and I put a lock on it. and I love it! |

or how about a rack system for the cargo area? Scarlet can't go roof rack because of the cool fishing rod holders! |

in the rear area behind the rear seats you could fashion a panel straight across there with panels that would swing down, have like a pouch or drawer in them hinges on the panels, so it would swing down and open, latch to keep it closed, would not be hard to make at all, keep straps , etc up there, |

You wouldnt mount it to the head liner at all. You would need find some metal somewhere to use. Might be able to use the place where the handles screw into the roof then go back where the trim goes across the back(close to that light) and find something there. |

Thats what I was thinking attach where the handles are and then in the rear I have a plan of what will work OK now you have me going out to the garage and looking at what it may look like |

But I use those handles to help pull myself up to reach the roof of the Jeep. Could you tie into the roof rack bars or do the attachment points extend too far / not pass through the roof? [I've never really looked] |

That's a good idea!....for lightweight stuff, nice. I was thinking possible side storage might be an option too: http://farm1.static.flickr.com/188/3981 ... d2.jpg?v=0 It's an overhead compartment in the Renault Kangoo vehicle. I figure if there's a way to find something that I could makeshift into something similar but smaller, then I could clip the containers right into the top of the plastic molding along the vehicle to store lightweight items. I just can't think of what kind of container to use....hmm |
