| Post subject: | Leaking Diff Fluid (rear) |
I'm developing a leak in front of the diff at the drive shaft. I'm guessing a seal is getting worn. Diff fluid has been sprayed under the body as you can see spots along the undercarriage. After sitting for a few hours, enough fluid is pooling at the bottom of the housing, but not enough to drip to the driveway. Fluid levels are good too in the diff, right at the fill hole. What am I getting into if I want to replace that seal? Should I be worried about pulling the drive shaft or need any special tools to get in there? How many of you would pass on the repair until it gets more apparent? |

Can't give you details on the repair but I would do it sooner than later. If lube can get out then water can get in and that wouldn't be good. |

Good call JJ. I was flipping through the service manual and saw all these Mopar specific tools... Not sure I want to dig into it only to find that I can't replace the seal. I may have to find an axle shop for this and some other work too. Anyone else with a comment? |

Yeah the work didn't look too difficult, but was put off at the technical jargon. Plus I think my PowerTrax has some worn/busted springs. I may want an axle shop to look her over. Plus I have a couple goodies on the short horizon... |

Big Georges Off-road (Milford) did Modular's install. Jury is still out on their performance however. |

Just because one prods a fire with his foot after a couple beers, he's labelled a lush It's your Jeep being angry with you for not going to HNH. Gear installs...I CAN say don't go to Cincy Speed. Kid I know with a V6 Fireturd will tell you the same thing. |

Should I even be concerned with checking rotation resistance? How would YOU keep the pinion from rotating while turning the pinion nut? |

A large pipe wrench can be used to hold the yoke if you do not have use of a impact. |
