Ok, so I've got more than 3 posts....but haven't posted in a while.

I post, I talk, I'll talk till you're sick of me, but only when I've got something worth saying. Why waste webspace spewing the same old BS :?:

Hmm...three or less. I'm probably in that group, too. Here's my current list of mods: Husky floor liners.

A full set of skids is on order and hopefully it'll be lifted soon because I need new tires. No sense in getting small tires and then lifting.

Oh and one more mod. My wife (who thought this was going to be her Jeep) bought a set of those silver stick-ons that cover the trim. When they were first put on I thought they looked like something a 13 yo girl would have on her stuff. It probably still does, but I'm used to it now.

I have the exact same thing on my BMW board 430 members and the top 30 do all the posts
Some people only ever want all the knowledge without giving anything as much as a thanks or hello in return.

Guess the way I see it, If they want to lurk in the shadows and not post, thats fine. Like QuietOutdoorsman said, they will speak up when they feel they have something important to ask or say. Many peeps have the same questions as those who post.

That being said, post up peeps :) If you have a question you haven't seen answered, chances are somebody else has the same question. Just keep in mind, there are no dumb questions

My 2 cents

You know, think it has anything to do with the new guys coming on and asking a question and then getting BLASTED because they didn't know there was a search feature?
All these posts that say, "This has been discussed already. Do a search." really grinds me. Maybe they don;t know search is here, maybe they have searched and still don;t get it, or maybe, just maybe the question was asked last month and they want an updated response.

x3. Sometimes we all can be preety abrasive to new members. It's all a point of view thing.

Yep, if you want to hear from those who prefer to listen, don't slam the ones who do speak up. Simple courtesy. :)

I try to find other threads on any issues or questions I have before I pipe up. I don't want anyone yelling at me to use the search function... :) What normally happens is when I find a thread to comment on it's a day or three after most everyone has responded...so I prefer to read...

Another observation, and please dont take this as blasting the board or anyone here. I think this is one of the best sites out there and it's just an opinion.

Some new members (including myself) who havent lifted yet or dont plan to lift yet are looking for general information and possible basic or simple mods. If you look at what is posted, for the most part its dealing with all Frankenlifts, Rustys lift, ARB Bull Bar or Lockers, which is all good but also all high end (expensive) ADVANCED mods. Not everyone who is new or has experience with this can participate in these discussion and they are the ones that are most updated. Same goes with tire information, if it's not Bridgestone Duellers, Goodyear MT/S or the famous BFG AT, TA-KO then its basically crap. :)

I find myself checking the boards everyday and I enjoy reading the discussions, seeing pics and talking with people that I have "met" here but for the most part, the only boards that truely get updated are the lift discussions so it makes it tough sometimes.

Again, please dont think I am blasting this site and I wouldnt know how to change it or anything else. I'm just saying in general what could be a factor of people posting.

EASY - just ask questions! There are all these different sections that nobody uses. If you have a question please post in the appropriate space and that's how that section will take off. It's a catch 22 the way you're thinking about it. "I don't want to post about X because most people post about Y." Well if you did post about X then maybe others would as well.

We're open to all topics of discussion, but the questions need to be posed by someone and it may as well be you.

If it's any consolation we get the same type of things,,,i.e. do a search as one of the Admin's over on my site that really rub's me I always show courtesty to newb's try to encourage posting and be as available and friendly as I can.

As was said by someone in this thread there is a "thing" for Soccer Mom Jeeps at times unless its lifted and revo'd etc all of which is fine but I only ever will get the chance to "soft road" mine due to local regs laws and such but I still wish to become a part of the community here and promote the site in the UK as we grow and diversify we become stronger and the tolerence to all kinds of owners becomes more important.

I may never "lift" my KJ I will re-tyre, tire, (heck new black donuts OK????) it, add skid plates to the tranny and tank and try a few other ideas listed as well but I still want acceptance.

The intimidation newb's can feel is quite strong, I lurked for a while before posting and I am an old hand at forums! 8)

"Some people only ever want all the knowledge without giving anything as much as a thanks or hello in return."

I don't believe it's that. Kind of like Derek Mc, I just didn't want to look like a dork posting something lame. I did a lot of lurking so I had some sort of clue about stuff and get a feel for the board. No need to gab on about stuff just for a post count. I'm sure there are a lot of people with great ideas and insight who just havn't posted them yet.

As far as cheaper mods and accessories without radically changing your vehicle, they are there. They just don't change as much and in turn don't get new posts as much. The headlight/foglight bulbs, neoprene seat covers, flashlight and fire extinguisher mounts, speakers and headunits, drop in airfilters, etc. Depending on your adventure and skill levels there's things like the Steakgoddess bumper cut and the whole fabrication forum.

So hang out here all you want, learn what you can, and post if you have something you want to post about. It's a great site that really stands out and gets noticed. Just play nice and have fun.

amen!

The way i've tried to do it lately, is if there is a question that has been posted several times, and it posted again by a new comer, I'll do an abbreviated post to answer their question, and usually, i'll do a quick search to pull up a more detailed thread, and post a link on the thread they started. But if I'm in a hurry somewhere, I'll usually say "do a search for "insert topic here" and you'll see what i'm talking about"

Remember, we were all newbs at once, and remember how we felt then? Out of the several vehicles i've owned, this is the one i've gotten into the most, and it's thanks to this site and a couple others out there (JKJ and dare I say it, for a short time, JU). Who cares if they don't post back? Maybe they're having a problem with their Jeep and just need an answer quickly, and once they find it, they dont have time to reply back right at that moment. The fact the info was out there and easy for them to find, or answered by caring people means the most, IMO.
