Post subject:  Air shocks???

I went camping last week and my KJ was freighted! I have the 2.5" daystar lift with rancho rear shocks. Has anyone added air assist bladders or air shocks to their KJ for load leveling???

I hate to get rid of my rancho shocks for a set of air shocks...

There was a guy, Speleorelic (he hasn't been on the boards in a long time though), who had Firestone air bags in his rear springs because he towed a pop-up trailer a lot. I'm not sure where he got them from, but he did say they helped a lot with leveling the load out.

Another question is what effect will a coil spring air bladder have on extreme rear axle articulation? I do not want to hamper that!
I left the rear sway bar out for a reason :!:

I have rear air shocks on my XJ, at $65 a pair they are pretty cheap and are great for heavy loading/road trips, or towing a trailer.

I also did the Air Lifts had them in for about two years and two trips towing a lifted popup to Colorado ( Just got back today) I think I paid $69 easy install now troubles as of yet.

Why not get rid of the spacers and go with some OME Heavy Duty springs, your stock Springs are maybe getting weaker anyways so time to upgrade! I have had mine packed full before inside along with a roof rack full of suit cases and a rear hitch carrier full and no tail dragging for me

Ok...... If I go with the OME948 rear springs and pull out my Daystar spacer, will my KJ still be level or slightly higher in the back, or will I need to pick up a set of Jeep isolators? Bear in mind when I installed the Daystar, I left in the factory isolators to make the rear slightly higher. Also I will need extended bump stops as well right.
I said the Daystar was a tempoary lift and some day would switch things out to OME :!:

will they work with the OME lift?

I have the OME HD coils and the air bags like jsc7002 said. Eddo recommended the air bags for a 4runner and theyve been working out great for over a year.

Since then Ive also added them to a ZJ we have that tows a pop-up and a small boat. For the price its hard not to get them if you haul heavy loads.

Just remember these do NOT replace a weight distributing setup if you tow bigger things like campers and such. You need weight on those front wheels.

Yea, you would need taller air bags. If you didnt get taller bags the rear suspension would go down till it hit the bags.

Its possible you could call summit or air-ride and see if you could get some extra little black donuts that go above the bag.

Im mainly wanting them to help my rear coils with my heavy bumper but I dont want to have to deflate and inflate them all the time, so what would be a good PSI to keep them at?
