http://home.att.net/~email.id/h2oproof.doc The above link shows how to waterproof the connections under your hood. It's kind of long and detailed. If you have a few moments please read it and let me know what you think. I'm thinking of doing this. Terry |

On the TJ yes.. but I think we have on the KJ's a lot more wire to work with, the trans control module is a concern, the main fuse block under the hood is another, I dont really think our KJ,s were meant to be completely submerged under water even with a snorkel. as a precautionary measure it sounds like a good idea, just to use the grease, I wouldnt want to seal them with liquid tape, what if I have to take one appart ? but it is a good write up . another interesting fact that I have been doing a bit of reasearch on the F Cruiser and they run their main wire harness in the roof, but then 2 months ago I pulled one out of 4 feet of water totaly stalled and would not start due to water on the main ignition system under the hood. So go figure. |

I'm not planning on driving around in water but down here if you do any wheeling at all you will get into it. Terry |

I've had the KJ over the headlights in water many times, several times for quite some distance and not had any electronics (or leakage) issues yet. I think we're not too bad off from the factory. |

The last two times I had gone through a water crossing, my idle air control had gone haywire. Had to get the ECM reflashed both times. Anyone else have this problem? Maybe sealing the ECM might do the trick. |

it can be done but expect to spend alot of time on it. i waterproofed every electrical piece on my old wrangler when i did a rebuild and had it all off the frame. it took me about a day or two to do. but on our kjs there are alot more wires and components and some that are very sensative. and when sealing something you also have to make sure you dont trap any moisture in what you are trying to seal. i've seen people seal their computers only to fry them with the moisture they traped. but if you have a carberated engine then you can elimanate the computer but thats a different story. |
