I'm heading up to Bar Harbor, ME next weekend and plan to do a lot of hiking, Mt. Biking and kayaking in and around Acadia National Park. Does anyone know if there are any 4x4 trails on that Island? Other than that if you've been and know any hiking trails or places to kayak or bike that I shouldn't miss please let me know. I'll be doing some more research about where to go over the weekend but figured I'd check to see if anyone's been there before. I'm driving up on Thursday and coming back on Monday so I'll really only have the Friday - Sunday for full day activities. Oh, the kayak I have is a 15.5' tandem open cockpit recreation kayak, it's not an ocean kayak. so far I haven't been in anything more than 1 foot chop and it did OK. |

No motorized vehicles are allowed on the trails. I think they have 27 (or is it 47) miles of trails for hiking and bikes. There are 2 parts to the park. Be sure to go over to the eastern part. Somewhere over there you can watch a river flow backwards! It has to do with the tides. It's a beautiful park, have fun! Terry |

We honeymooned in Acadia, very nice. We hiked the Cadillac mountain trail. It's the highest point on the east coast. It rises from sea level to 2200 or 2300 feet. It's a pretty strenuous trail, with sections of hand over hand bouldering, but the view at the top is worth it. In town, there was a restruant on the corner, down by the dock, forget the name. But you've got to try the "Lazy Lobster". Best I've ever had. |
