Is it possible to get a black grill for my liberty, or should I just take it off and find a shop to paint it black? Same goes for the rims, can those even be painted?

The short answer is yes. Both grills and wheels can be found in black and you current grill and wheels can be painted black. The paint that can make your grill black is not the same paint you'll want to make your wheels black though. And the big blue marble keeps on turnin'.

I would paint them myself the grille would be really easy and only take 1 hour at most, just take it off and scuff up the paint and paint it black and do some clearcoat and I usually do about 3 or 4 layers of paint and clearcoat

I like the black grille idea...I did that to an old CJ I used to have, never even thought to try it on the KJ. I may do this. If I do, I'll post pics. Question is, should I go gloss or matte finish? I think I'll do it matte.

What kind of clear coat did you use? I found some "UV-resistant" clear coat in spray cans that cost $18/can. Can I go with something a little cheaper or am I going to regret it later?

Look At Your build sheet, get ur color code for a paint match. Or just get a black one. I herculined my oem chrome one. Looked great but wheb I instaled my arb I went with a black color match. Looks better.

Hey. I tried this to see what it would look like. What I did though (to make it removable) is I went and got some spray on bug shield. It is a black spray on rubberish stuff that you can later wash off.

Long story short... I didn't like it. You may want to try it before you scuff the paint and repaint it...

I have been toying with this idea for a few months too. I just don't like the chrome look. What would be really cool (IMHO) is black chrome. My buddy did black chrome on a show truck that he built and it looked really cool. It looks like black gloss paint until you get close to it with light hitting it it has kind of a gold back tint to it. Unfortunately you can only put it on metal parts.

The chrome was a bit tough to color convert. I had to paint it :(
This isn't great, but it will give you a general idea. I highly suggest spending the $6 or $7 to buy some spray on black bugshield and try that first. It's easy, cheap, and reversible.

Thanks Rescu! I didn't need it to be perfect just wanted to get the idea and this works. Where can I get the spray on bug shield?

I got mine at Autozone or Advance Auto Parts. Lowes or Walmart may also carry it. Be sure to get the right one. They have a CLEAR version and a black version. It may have taken two cans. It comes off pretty easily with a rag. It says that you can spray it off with a pressure washer too I believe. It leaves a texture that is a matte black and looks almost like rubber. It is really useful to see if you might like the looks of something in black.
