I'm looking for the write up (with pictures) of the installation of the Renegade light bar. I know I saw it somewhere, I just can't find it. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. |

Thanks! But what I thought I remembered seeing once was a write up with photographs as opposed to the Mopar installation instructions. However, you did save me from having to grab the installation instructions again |

My bar should arrive tomorrow, so I'm getting everything I'll need in order. I want to be ready as soon as I can find some free time to install it. |

its not too bad. a little unnerving drilling into the roof. the wiring is a pain, but i think any wiring is a pain! |

That's what I'm most worried about - the drilling and the little metal shavings that may trash the paint on the roof. Any ideas on how to prevent that from happening? |

Easy, put masking tape over the areas you are going to drill. It'll be esier to mark up and it will protect the surrounding paint, just so long as you don't let the bit slip. |

bedline the roof |

I actually thought of bedlining the roof, but that's not going to happen for some time. The problem is that I'm going to be doing the install in a parking lot, and I don't want the little shavings to get whipped around by the wind and scuff the paint. You think if I tarp the back of the roof, that it'll help? Or should I just wash & wax before hand then wash & wax after the install? |

What little shavings you create aren't going to damage the finish any - no need for a tarp or anything like that. Mask the area before drilling and go slow. If you're doing this in a parking lot and don't the shavings to go flying when your done just use some masking tape to collect the shavings off the roof. Its really not that hard of an install. Trickiest part of the whole thing, imo, was breeching the firewall. Make sure to have a metal rod ( at least 1/4" dia and a good 3' length ) that you can grind a point onto to shove through the firewall gasket and then use to chase the wires into the engine area. |

1. be SURE to vacuum all the little shavings off the roof when you are done. I recently drilled up there for something else and ended up with this:
2. be sure to put some paint on the bare metal holes that you drill before you put in the rivnuts 3. when you drill those holes, be VERY CAREFUL. drilling sheet metal is kind of a PITA. when the drill breaks through, its gonna grab the metal and pull down in there very quickly. dont let that happen or you'll have corresponding holes in your headliner. |

Yeah, it's that picture that's making me nervous about the metal shavings. |

mark the drill bit with some masking tape so you only drill through the thickness of the sheet metal. The tip of the drill bit should not go past the surface any more than 1/4" - 3/8" |

The tip of the drill bit should not go past the surface any more than 1/4" - 3/8" what i was referring to is that when the bit breaks through the sheet, it will physically grab the metal and pull itself down. masking tape isnt gonna stop that. |

no - but it will at least give you a reference point as to how far to drill. If you wanted to get real fancy you could make a spacer out of wood that would only allow 1/4" or so of the drill bit to break through. |
