My engine has a thin layer of dried mud on it... Is there an easy way to get that off?

Mud OFF the engine???

Just kidding. Pressure wash like they said. Also a little trick a friend of mine showed me he always did w/his corvette. Spray the motor w/armor all. It helps the mud/dirt to wash off easier in the pressure wash.

You spray armor all on after its muddy? Don't you just get shiny mud then? lol. (That is a joke. bad, i know. I am at work, and really tired.)

yep armor all the engine before mudding, spray PAM cooking spray on the lower parts of the body and inside the fenderwells, then go home after having fun and hose it all off , quick and easy and ready to take your lady out for the evening

engine cleaner and a scrub brush if its been on there for a while though, I have found some cheap cleaner at the "Dollar Store" that cleans like everything, spray it on let it sit for 10 minutes and hose it off with a garden hose

Is there an issue with the high pressure water affecting electronics in the engine bay?

I've got a reasonably dirty/dusty engine bay and did consider using HP washer. But declined due to paranoia

I've sprayed engine off a few times never had a problem, i just be careful and watch were you spray. I allways clean it when the engine is cold.

I just use Simple Green & a regular garden hose, comes out just as good as it was new, just don't spray it at full blast setting, about half way is good

And if you don't wash it cold, make sure it's running.

Oh boy, here we go again. The debate about whether or not to wash the engine running or not has been done here ad-nauseum. Me personally...water doesn't go anywhere near my engine.

only drives on days that there is only sun, no clouds etc. Used to ride with a guy like that, would not take his Harley out unless he knew for sure it was not going to rain, needless to say he did not ride much.

but back to washing the engine , been washing mine (cold engine, cold water) for over 35 years on every kind of engine made and no problems at all, water will never hurt them :P but then I never do car washes either only wash at home

i only clean my engine when its cold. i soak it down with purple HD Simple Green, let it sit for about 5 or so minutes then hose it off with a regular garden hose sprayer, just enough to rinse off everything, if theres a tough spot ill pull the trigger all the way for "jet"

Dealerships use WD40 to detail engines. Gets 'em clean and shiny and keeps them that way. It is also good to keep your wheel wells clean. :D

What is the crap they use on the tires? I have never gotten a straight answer on that. One place said it was some stuff that they have to put on them when the tires are cold, or something will happen to them. :?

I don't know what they use, but silicone spray has the same effect.
