| Post subject: | Rear rotor and calipers |
Sorry I haven't been on this board in a while so this may be something that gets posted a lot. I did a quick search but didn't find anything. How do you get the rear calipers off and once you do that is there any special tool to remove the rotor? I replaced the fronts ok but couldn't get the rear calipers off. I removed the 2 screws but had a hard time getting the piston to move backwards. I couldn't get the screwdriver in to pry the pads back. Just wanted to know if there was any special trick. |

Try rocking the caliper back & forth with your screw-stick to see if it will loosen. It sounds like your piston may be stuck nearly all of the way out. A BFH may be required to beat the caliper into submission. As the caliper & rotor are probably trash anyway in this situation, just bang away. Sometimes popping the bleeder/and or line off may relieve the pressue a bit to let the piston collapse, but That never seems to do it for me. |

I replaced all of my rotors and they were a PITA getting them off. They were rusted in there and took a little to get them out. |

First and foremost - MAKE SURE YOUR E-BRAKE IS DISENGAGED! Ok, now that that's out of the way, get your BFH out and get a little aggression out on them. I agree, they are a PITA! A little talking to and they'll come off, however. |
