Where does everyone mount their hi-lift? Im wanting mine out of the KJ, I thought about mounting it on the tailgate since I dont have me spare there anymore but now Im thinking I might mount it on my front bumper on the grille guard

what do you think, the tailgate or on the bumper?

If you still have the bolts in for the spare tire I would use them. Save time and work that way.

Just drill 1 inch holes through the tailgate

or since they don't line up, some small brackets would not be too hard to fab up, also make a place to install a lock on it as well, so it doesn't walk off

You need to set it where you plan on mounting it and take pics. Otherwise it could look funny or it could look good but it is hard to say without showing us where you are thinking.

How is the tire mounted to the roof? If you have it in a rack, you could mount the hi lift on it.

You can do what I did kind of but make it fit the spare tire mount bolts. Go get some steel square tubing and measure and cut it to the length you want it to mount to. I cut mine (I used flat bar) to 12". Take the tube and drill holes in it where you want to run the bolts through that will mount to the hi lift. I welded my hi lift mounting bolts with washers into the tube and then drilled a hole in one of the top of the bolts for a small lock to run through. Then measure and mark where the spare tire mount bolts will come through the tube and drill holes in it and bolt the tube to the spare tire mount bolts. I think that would just about do it.

I have a 48" hi lift, the 60" will stick out real far on the rear door if mounted horizontally and can crush the driver side rear lights when the door opens. The 48" will too if not mounted right but the 60" is obviously a bigger issue and will stick out real far on the passenger side to avoid hitting the driver side lights. I hope this makes sense. If not PM me and we can go over it if you are interested.

I just went ahead and mounted it on the bumper and if I decide I dont like it I will only have 2 bolts to cut off and grind down

Mike how did you drill through the bolt? did you just put it in a bench vise and take the drill to it?

Held it in a vise and drilled away. Carefully and slowly.

put the bolt in the vice with the nut on it, you can take a grinder and flatten it out some to get the hole started , but just drill through when you take the nut off it will clean the threads

whoops I'm not Mike

alright sounds easy enough, is it best to grind a little spot before drilling to get it started?

Just another thought..... There are several manufacturers who make a flat mount that sits across the hood on Wranglers to mount a Hi-Lift to (including Mopar I believe). They also allow the mounting of several off road lights on the same bracket. Always thought that would look cool across the hood of a Lib.
