Well about a month after I purchased my Jeep, I started to get this whine from the engine bay on cold start up. Only in the morning for about a minute. It won't do it the rest of the day, until the next morning. The sound to me was pretty evident that it was power steering pump related. Probably the bearings not receiving lubrication initialy. I brought it in to the dealer and told them,"Hey, my power steering pump is whining on cold start up.". The guy at the desk writes whatever he wants on his little work order and says the techs will look at it. At the end of the day I go to pick up my Jeep and they said it was the tensioner assembly. I'm like, "Oh OK, I guess I was wrong." The tensioner is covered under warranty but the new different size $70 belt isn't. A week later the part comes in and I'm without my Jeep for the day again. I go to pick it up and they tell me that I'm good to go. The next morning, guess what. Same noise. Still sounds just like the power steering pump. Go figure. So now I'm going to have to waste my time again with the stealership unless I want to pay for the pump and just replace it myself. I just want to know how the heck am I supposed to get these jokers to fix my Jeep right the next time I bring it in. I've already told them what the problem is. I hate hassling with the dealer. |

I have encountered this several times over the years and the only solution is not to go to a Jeep dealer anymore. If it's minor like your whine in the morning, just ignore it as I find that most things will solve themselves, if it is something bigger try it your self with help of your LOST brothers/sisters or go to an independent garage you can trust. for example: I had a rattle in the gear stick when idling I mentioned this to my dealer and guess what they replaced? ..... the front drive shaft????? I was lucky it was still under warranty |

x2, Find a good shop that always looks busy. Talk to the guy who's going to fix your car and get comfortable with him and let him get comfortable with your knowledge of your vehicle. If the guy treats you like you don't know what your talking about, go somewhere else. A good mechanic doesn't necessarily need to be factory trained. They need to know how to solve problems and where to find the info they need to fix your vehicle. Oh yeah, You will rarely be able to get immediate service from a good mechanic. the only guys that aren't busy are the guys that don't know their elbow from their axxhxxx |

I still don't understand the tensioner and different size belt? It would seem to me the only reason you would need a different size belt is if they put the wrong tensioner on it. But I doubt it. I believe you got scammed. |

Yeah that's what the service guy said when I called him back with the problem. The only thing is that it's a incredible inconvenience because I have to bring my daughter to daycare before I go to work in the morning. Sure they have the complimentary van that will take you to work, but I don't really want to try and get them to cart me around to all of my necessary destinations in the morning. |

Try insisting for the courtesy car. My stealership has a courtesy Dodge calibre. They are quite prepared to loan me while they have my car. Only catch is, is that they have only one. So booking is essential for the courtesy car. If they don't have this service, how bout asking for a loaner overnite? (Usually a just traded, not ready for the lot, job) |

This makes buying a v-belt not to mention a pulley for 3.7 interesting. |
