I've been on my wife for a few weeks now about getting a basket or an interior rack from J Products. Needless to say I encountered a fair amount of resistance. The KJ account was kind of low so it was up to me to try to sell her on these two items so I could use some joint cash to help with the payment. Well...I gave my best pitch and got the ok to make a purchase!

So...I'm all kinds of happy right now, but I can't make up my mind what I want to get. Her answer was "I don't care, get whatever you need, but you can only get one or the other."

So...what would you get first if you had your choice?

The interior rack will be more useful more often.

if only :D

Anyway, I think you can do the interior rack DIY very easy. A roof basket on the other hand....

I voted roof rack, so later you can throw some nice fog lights up there and light up the night like a disco.

I have one of the Chrysler folding storage racks and I use it a lot more than I would ever use a roof basket. What I like about the interior rack is that it turns the back of the Jeep into a workable trunk. I am able to put stuff under the rack and it cannot be seen or gotten to easily. I need a utility trailer more than I need a roof basket. Nothing against roof baskets, I think they are great, especially with four lights on the front and two lights on the back. :D

The picture is pretty small, but if you have a Jeep accessory brochure, there is a better picture in that. I am really impressed with it. It has folding compartments up top and it gives you a lot of storage space underneath. It also folds flat onto the floor if you need to move anything large. I was able to fit a large Craftsman 2 piece tool cart and cabinet in the back of the jeep with room to spare.

Agreed. Should be a no-brainer. And since I am voting roof rack, I will toss in my 2 cents by adding Rock Lizard makes the best looking racks I've seen.

Make the interior rack, buy the roof rack.

The KJ looks much better exterior-wise with the basket on it.

If you do not have any real need for the basket though, then go with the rack.

Look at your wants and needs...and coolness factor 8) , then decide.

Buy the roof rack and make the interior rack, then you have both, that's what I did! :D

I agree by the way that interior rack from J Products is way over priced.

I really like the design of the rack. For those who did the diy rack...what did you do for tiedown points or to secure things on the rack?

The basket plan is to mount the spare and 4 lights up top. I'll then take the spare mount bracket off the back gate. The gate will be cleaned up and I'll get Pixel to make a large Jeep decal that I'll put on the back a la Liberator.

How's that sound?

sounds good to me

for my shelf I bought some 1'x2" and made it into a small wall so things wouldnt roll off similar to all-j's and then I bought some I-bolts and drilled through the side walls and the bottom plywood and bolted them down I only did 2 I-bolts on each side by the window and then I just leave two bungee cords going criss-cross accross everything to hold it down

hope that helps you out some!
