Been getting this odd groaning noise while going over speed bumps and other dips lately. I think i have the noise localized to the right rear upper ball joint.
Sound about right?

Does anyone know if this 'boomerang' assembly can be bought complete with the ball joint and bushings pre installed? Any ideas on cost?

Thanks
JD

There is only one ball joint and 2 bushings, they are replaceble and not that hard to do. buying the entire unit just for the ball joint. I think that would be costly. My ball joint gave out a year ago and I replaced it with a standard ball joint press.

my rear balljoint went south too - it wasn't too $$ to get it fixed.

I had read here or on KJ Country that regular tools couldnt be used to press out the ball joint because of its size. Thats the only reason i was considering getting the whole thing. What tool did you use. Maybe ill pop into harbor freight and pick up a press.

I think I saw the entire part for $163 on wholesalemopar.com. Waiting for a reply from them to see if thats just for the bracket or the complete assy with bushings and joint.

here ya go http://www.jeepkj.com/forum/showthread.php?t=33954

The problem is getting it back in. With a hydrolic bottle jack and a 3.15" wide piece of pipe you can do it...

Yea that's the post I referred to at the top. Wrong site reference though...
I am unlikely to have his setup in my yard. However, I have access to presses at the machine shop at work. I just dont want to start this and not be able to finish. I suppose I could also get it all apart then bring the boomerang and new joint/bushings to a garage to press in. Prob only cost me 10 minutes labor.

Wondering if this would work http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/d ... mber=38335

That looks a lot like the 'JEEP special tool' you're supposed to use. Except 3" won't do, the outer rim on the rear ball joint is 80mm / 3.15"

If you have a press at work why not do it there...

You wouldn't happen to have an old hand waterpump somewhere near, now do you? :D :D
