While the site was down I got rear ended by an older Jeep Grand Cherokee cruisin' at about 25. Liberty took it darn well. You can't even tell the jeep was hit unless you look behind the spare tire. The spare tire took the entire hit and shoved the other guys hood bout half way back up, and busted thru his radiator. My rear gate just buckled on the bottom of the spare tire carrier.

So glad that my rear glass didn't break or anything. The rear gate still opens and closes fine, but the spare tire catches the bumper a lil' when I shut it now.

Should be fixed soon.

Sorry I don't have any pics cuz my camera just broke...but hey, you can't even tell unless I took the spare tire off!

Same thing happened to me except I got hit by a Dodge Mega Cab. The spare when right through his grill and screwed his truck up. You could hardly tell the Libby had taken a hit. I still got the tail gate, spare etc replaced under his insurance as my Jeep was only a few months old at the time.

Hope you are fine and all is well.

I was rear-ended by an Intrepid. It totalled the Intrepid. I had my ball in the receiver hitch and it went through the hood , tearing up the top of the Intrepid's engine. The ball stopped about 2" from the base of the Intrepid's windshield. It popped the bead on the KJ's rear tire. The Intrepid run up under the KJ to the point that I had to use 4WD to get down. Besides $9 to re-seat the bead, his insurance co. paid for a new receiver hitch although we could find nothing wrong with it once replaced. There was no body damage to the KJ at all. Oh, and I was uninjured despite his going under the KJ although he was only going " 5-10 MPH" according to his statement. :D

I got hit by a little red Toyota car over a year ago at a stop light. The car was so short that his hood slid under my spare. It felt like something just lifted the rear of my Jeep up about an inch for a split second then let go. Other than some paint on my spare, there was absolutely no damage, didn't even touch my bumper. But his hood was pressed down onto his radiator and had a fresh tire mark on it. There was also another, older, rusted dent from another time the car had done something very similar, I'd guess. He immediately started apologizing all over the place and told me that he didn't have insurance. I laughed, said "that's fine" (since I had no damage), and drove the rest of the way to work. He drove away as well. Not sure how far he made it with the radiator damage.

Usually the vehicle on the receiving end takes less damage than the pitcher, it is pretty commonplace for a vehicle thats been rear ended to show very little damage compared to its assailant.

The bumper didn't get hurt at all, so no new bumper for me. lol I'm glad it was a vehicle that sat up higher b/c a car would have gone up under me like you all had talked about.

I got rear ended by a Civic one day. It just slid under the spare and raise my rear end up. It never made it to the paint, and didn't even noticable bend the spare tire carrier. His hood was pretty jacked up though.
