I would guess they would be very weak in the power area. They have 4.10 gears! The current lift kits would work just fine.

Any one have or know about the 4 cyl. KJs?

Are the engines ok?

How is power compared to the 6 (much less I suppose)?

Gas milage?

Same lift kits?

My dad is looking @ one and just looking for info.

I've driven one before. It doesn't have the grunt or sound of the 3.7L V6 but it certainly has... enough... power. Just don't expect to tow anything or haul any heavy cargo. The engine has some decent low end torque for a 4 cylinder.

It's simply bearable, IMO. I'd certainly be happy with it if I had no choice. Could be better, could be worse.

It has more HP than a 1984 Z28 did......

And half the torque;)

IMO, with the lack of power and lack of fuel economy advantage, I wouldn't bother with a 4 banger KJ...especially since they're less common than the V6s...junkyard parts (should they be needed) will be harder to come by.

Remember...that 150 hp I4 needs to work much harder than the 3.7 (the 3.7 has to work too hard as it is), and that negates any fuel economy boost.

I could NOT imagine owning a KJ with 60 less hp and 80 less ft lb...mine is too slow as it is.

I have a 2.4L 4cyl. kj with 4wd

im not sure but i think alot of the 4cyl were 2wd
It is underpowered to a point but that's why you have more gears. I live in the country w/ hills, and i do have to go through some gears, but it's not so bad when you get used to it.
I have pulled around 2000lbs load with it for a road trip. it had to work hard.

I get around 21 mpg most times. some times 18-19 sometimes 22
I have not seen better than 23. (they rate it at 19 city, 24 highway miles, Ive never seen 24)
It did have 15-16 for that long trip of towing.
I don't notice a decline when towing around home.
Ive been tinkering though and hoping to improve some.

That's odd because it isn't that difficult to get 24MPG highway with the 3.7L. (And that was paper math, not EVIC...)

I thought 24 would be easy on the highway too. As it is, i don't see much if any difference between city/highway. just a consistant 21.

I keep telling myself that with all mileage figured, im still saving with 21.

I wouldn't bother unless that 4cyl had a turbo and ran on diesel

For those that have the 4 cyl with 4.10 gears can someone give me the VIN # so I can go to the dealer ship and tell them to look up the gears and I can order them?

Thanks
