| Post subject: | Skid Plates |
Im looking into getting some skids for my rig. I dont really have much to spend prob about 600$ but theres a place I wheel and everytime I go through it I can feel stuff scrapping on the bottom of my jeep. I looked to see what it could have been but I couldnt find anything. But I was wondering if anyone could give me any suggestions on what skids I could get and where would be the cheapest place. THANKS! |

4 skids Engine, Transmission, Transfer case, Fuel tank. you should be able to get the entire set of Mopar skids for about $350-400. aftermarket probably $800+(- some of the customs are impressive and expensive) http://www.partsformyjeep.com/ML-BCA.aspx http://jparts.com/product_info.php?products_id=1472&osCsid=e29f751acc70c0bf66cf46708f5f2846 http://www.skidplates.com/Products_KJ.asp |

Just hard enough......................... J/K, I have not screwed mine up but I have not really hit them. I could see where a decent hit would bend them up pretty fast. |

i've come down pretty hard on my mopar skids and they've held up fine Boulder bars have saved me from serious damage many-a-time. Definitely get some rocker protection if you plan to do any wheeling. |

you have to sit the full weight of the KJ on a rock that hits the tranny skid - without touching the boulderbars - that will allow the tranny skid to bend up and into the transmission pan. - actually I've seen a picture of a Skid Row plate that did the same thing - I think the SuperSkids were the most resistant - but they stopped making those. ( Steel Bender has a large assortment of these rocks) so if you're barely scrapping now and not bending anything - the mopars will be fine (and you need them so that you don't poke a hole in the fuel tank - that's plastic) (This post is out of position because of time stamps - I really did post it after silver surfer) |

But its just one spot that I drop down onto that just hits a rock or somethin and hits underneath my jeep but idk where. Are the skids heavy enoughthat I will, by anychance, need HD coils or new shocks to help support the skids? |

No extra springs are needed for the skids - although a set of OME's would really give a bit of ground clearance so you wouldn't scrape - and it would ride better. Mopar skids are lighter - they get their strength from the stamped shape of the metal ~ 1/8" - the aftermarket ones are flat thick steel (3/16" to 1/4") (the tranny skid that bent - bent at the flattened area at the back end - the stamped forward section was straight) I'm guessing 20-30 lbs each for the Mopar skids 2x that for the aftermarket - so ~100 -200 lbs for everything. |
