Post subject:  Overhead console

I see some guys saying they have a fuel rate gauge(shows avg mpg and real time) I obviously dont have this, and I would like to have it. So is this in the overhead console I dont have, or is it an in-dash digital gauge.

It is built into the overhead console and also houses the map lights, homelink system, and sunroof controls. i have no idea what is involved in adding it, but I have seen posts on here about doing the mod, I think it is called an EVIC system. Might see what a search for that pulls up? It is definetly nice to have though.

You can get the info from the link in my signature. Since you have an '05 you'll need a console from an '04 or '05 KJ, or an '05 Durango or Ram.

Nope. The Dodge Ram/Durango console is different than the Liberty. The electronics (module) would physically fit if you already had the rest of the console, but that's not the case.

Regardless, the Ram module is a poor choice. Notice it doesn't have the Homelink feature? More importantly, both Ram and Durango use an "OTIS" rather than the superior "EVIC". They have limited warning functions and no programming functions.

You want one off the Grand Cherokee or Liberty. The console will fit from 2000 and newer. To get the Ambient Air function to operate, you would want to find an '04 or newer Liberty. They're rare and expensive though, so the others would get you most of the available features.

Before you buy one, you need to do a little homework. Start out with this link: http://www.jeepkj.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=319

It's a worthwhile project!

Post subject:  Instant MPG

Instant MPG is not avaialble on the newer (04+) EVIC's. You can install an older one from an 02-03, but you will not get a temperature reading.

yea there are a couple of those on ebay. Sadly they are OTIS rather than EVIC.
Almost the same thing, but EVIC has quite a few more functions.

Thanks alot though

Did the Liberty come with EVIC or OTIS only?
I want the EVIC system, but I want the Outside Air Temp to work, and I've been told on the 04+ the outside air wont work unless the console came from a liberty

thanks to a forum member i have an otis from a 2005 ram installed into my 04 model, you need to change the housing but it works, you dont get the programming features of the evic

but you do get

outside temp
average economy
distance to empty
seperate odometer

04+ Liberty's must have an EVIC from an 04+ Liberty. I know an 04 EVIC from a Grand Cherokee will not get a temperature reading on an 04 Liberty. Other than that not too sure about 05-06 model compatability.

You will also need tire pressures sensors, 5 all together. When the EVIC is installed every time you start it up you will get the message 'Tire pressure sensors bad/missing'. Occassionally you will get the message driving along. You'll have to hit a button to get back to the previous display. It gets old after a while.

so only a 05+ liberty EVIC will work on an 05 liberty
So many people have told me so many things. Some people tell me 2000 and up will work, but no outside air temp. Others tell me only a liberty EVIC will work at all, and the 2000+ grand cherokee will not work at all.

I'm not so worried about outside temp... but i do want all the other functions

which one do I get?

As far as I know 05 is the same as 04
If your not worried about outside air temp then any one should work
I installed one from an 04 Grand Cherokee in mine and everything works except outside air temp
if you want outside air then you have to use one from 04 or newer KJ
also 05 doesn't have the mounting plate pre installed like 04 so you will have to add that first
