Post subject:  50% off Service Contracts?!

How badly is Chrysler needing some cash?? I've been hounded on service contracts since I agreed to buy my first Jeep. I recieved a postcard in the mail the other day offering a aftermarket GPS or 50% off. This is starting to look a little desperate, fine print was half off any service contract of 1K+ w/ $200 down; or the FREE GPS. I had a service contract on my '98 TJ and the 2 things that broke, a hydraulic clutch actuator and the instrument console weren't covered.
Anyone else see this offer lately, prior? Thoughts in general? Does it cover the power windows?

I haven't gotten any thing about extending my warranty in a long time, but when my water pump blew at 30,000 they didn't cover it. Doubt power windows would be covered

The service manager (a good guy) at the locale stealership told me they are a waste of money. I had a couple of phone calls about the "extended" service contract. They refused to send me a list of what was NOT covered. I just told them that if they couldn't do that then they were not get any money out of me and not to call again.

Thoes service contracts are not worth it. Most times when you have a problem, it is not covered by the contract.

Most companies depend on the service contracts to keep the money rolling in their doors and into the pockets. Alot of the companies want to and need to up sell any service contract no matter what you have. Age and type of product depends on the price.

Sir. I agree with you 100%
I once did an audit for a company that sold all sorts of extended warranties from gumball machine to furnaces. And they were pretty much banking that nobody would use it or remember that they even had this service.

After you owrk in dealerships for a while you see how much they care and how they view service contracts/extended warranties, it's just easy money to them!
