My old grandprix used to do that once in awhile, start up, rev up, then fade out. I think I ended up replacing the o2 sensor. Couldn't be certain on the jeep though. |

Check your battery(unhook, let sit for a few mins, then re-hook back up),that or your IAC went south. |

what is the IAC??? also.. i have another hint... when i have everything heat/ac wise off it does not do it (turned to the O.. whole way to the left on the dial so that nothing is on)... then when i put it on anything else when the compressor engages it does it again.. humm |

AC Compressor going bad and drawing too much power? |

thats kinda what i'm thinking.. maybe it's trashed on the inside and sucking too much juice.. then staying open too long and stealing all the RPM's.. seems strange that the AC compressor would go bad in 22,000 miles though... |

IAC is the (intake air something) I believe you said you cleaned your throttle body so maybe check around there? |

ohh that's the technical name for that thing.. i always called it the "throttle positioning sensor" haha.. on the drivers side of the throttle body i believe.. i thought that's what was wrong too.. so i cleaned it (after the problem had started) no dice.. it's going in for to the stealer monday for a fix.. i figure why change parts myself when it's free under warranty! after further investigation i'm almost positive it's the AC compressor. |

Can you unplug the TPS? My cousin's bonneville was reving by its self at times, so he unplugged the tps to check and it was fine. |

With you saying that with the Heat/AC off it doesn't do it I would third of fourth the AC compressor going out...perhaps there is a bad wire coming from it? hmmm will have to think more on this one. *edit* Long shot but could it be something on the belt? Perhaps the tensioner is loose just enough when the ac is kicked in and causing more drag on the belt? Just pulling that out of my arse. |

very good idea! didnt think the check the tensioner or belt itsself... i'll check that out in the morning and see if it gets me anywhere |

just try unplugging the compressor. or run it either with no ac or no defrost. see if that removes anything from your problems |

just wanted to let everyone know just incase someone has this problem in the future.. took it to the dealer today (since it was under warranty...) and they said it was the "idle motor" i dont know where or what that is... but they are changing it and hopefully that fixes it... UPDATE- got it back today and it was the IAC motor they changed.. thanks whoever said that was the problem in the first place.. would've been very helpful if i was out of warrenty |

Yea, thats probably the IAC. The TPS and IAC are totally different things. Tps=Throttle position sensor IAC=Idle air control |
