where can I get a set of replacements for an 02? Opened the hood on the wifes 02 this morning and it came crashing back down on me. It was fine last weekend. Do these things just fail like that or is it something else? It's been cold here the past few days but that shouldn't affect it. |

actually cold does affect it. mine work fine in the summer and like to fall in the winter. but, i'm sure they're kinda worn out too. probably would be fine in the cold if they were brand new. i'm not sure where you can get replacements other then the dealer. they might have something at an autozone or advance or something. |

Exactly the same thing happens to me once in a while in winter only. The cold certainly affects them, last time I was at the junk yard I got a set for myself just in case. BTW I paid $4 for two. |

mine are crap too, been having to prop it up with a lug wrench. They dont work weather its 90F or 40F. Went to Autozone and they didnt have them but could order them for 26.95 a peice, so i said no thanks. Why did they get rid of the old spring loaded ones? anyone find a better price than what I listed? other than the 4 dollar junkyard ones? |

Spring loaded ones (like on my last T-bird) are an ungodly heavy packaging nightmare. |

haven't had any issues with the kj's gas shocks, but i did add some to the cj to prevent the hood from becoming a guillotine... check out mcmaster and do a search for gas shocks - you can get them in extended lengths from 7" to 3' |

HEHE, I had my hood and tailgate glass shocks go out. I bought them all off ebay from a guy that went to the same college as me. They work great. I will check for his contact info when I get home. |

Since they have compressed air in them, and air contracts when it gets cold, of course they wont work as good when its cold! |

I got a question along this line. Even though this is in the KJ section, I was wondering if there's a way to install a set of lifts in a KK since Jeep decided to do away with them on the 08's. The hood on the KK has got to be way lighter than the one that was on my 06 KJ. It feels real flimsy and even flexes at highway speeds Anybody ever tried this procedure. I wouldn't think it would be that hard. Paul |

Paul sure! im not sure what the inside of the hood looks like, but get on mcmaster-carr and look up some parts. all you need to do is find a set of struts that have the proper extension length and will hold the weight. the get a couple of threaded ball sockets and posts that will fit the strut, drill some holes, figure out how to fasten and you're all set. shouldnt be too terribly difficult |

No idea. I've had the hood up on my J10 all night, charging the battery. It hasn't moved at all and we are having typical Wyoming winds today. Anyone who's been here knows what I mean. |
