I found oil on plugs 2,3,and 4 from the threads to the tip. A very good friend of mine, who I go to for everything, thinks the vlave cover gasket is leaking oil, but I'm not getting any smoke out the exhaust. Any ideas?
Thanks for your hlep

Well your certainly not getting any smoke out of the exhauset from a leaky valve cover...

oil fouled:A spark plug shorted by excessive oil entering the combustion chamber is shown below. This is often caused by piston rings or cylinder walls that are badly worn. Oil may also be pulled into the chamber because of excessive clearance in the valve stem guides, or badly worn valve stem seals. If the PCV valve is plugged or inoperative, it can cause a buildup of crankcase pressure. This condition can force oil and oil vapors past the rings and valve guides into the combustion chamber. hope that helps

Guess the real question is HOW MUCH

I just reread your post, do you mean oil on the plug wire side?

It was on the threads and tip and it was not dripping off, but deffinantly wet/saturated. I don't think its the rings b/c there would be more smoke and I'd be losing more oil between oil changes.

definatley oil? Your not lossing any oil? How many miles do you have on that motor? Any noticable oil on the head?

IF a valve cover is leaking you could get some oil down around the therads for sure, would not be coming from inside the engine

I just changed the plugs in my 2.4. And i thought mine looked black and wet as well. I thought it looked like they were just wet from gas, beingst that I have to remove the throttle body and all. but now that you've brought this up, Im going to have to go dig through the garbage and check

I thought i must have had a few twists of the throttle while moving the throttle body

Its my understanding that you wouldnt get any gas if you twist the throttle body, the EFI controls that. If it was a carb then definatley

black and wet is most times running too rich, or plugs not firing due to age, how many miles did they have on them? I change mine every 25,000 to 30,000 at the very most.

if it's burning oil you can tell by the look of the plugs, some pictures will help

the 2.4 KJs are all a normal throttle, not throttle by wire like the '07+ Liberty. If you move the TB, it will go VROOM.

However, if the engine is turned off (a likely scenario if you're changing spark plugs...unless you're REALLY F-ing GOOD), you will not get any fuel delivered to the combustion chamber while doing so.

you mean you're suppose to have the engine turned off when changing plugs
