Symptoms:
If in park and left Idling she will shut off, unless she is givin' gas
Left over night works fine the next day unless using lights, heat, etc.
Can notice lights changing brightness when givin gas.

I am thinking its the alternator, which I think may be under warranty :D Either way I am going to go get the battery & alternator tested. Hopefully I havn't got issues with both. Anyone else have this problem, just hoping someone can confirm it may be something minor like the battery or alternator. Thanks

Probably the battery, especially if it was the factory stocker one. Any auto parts store will test both for you at no charge.

Dont let tjkj know youre getting the alternator tested at an autoparts store!!

Sounds like it could be the alternator but it shouldnt keep working if it is. Have you charged or checked the volts on the battery?? Check it while its running with nothing on, then check it again with the headlights on.. It should stay around 13.8v.

It is the battery. The KJ's computer does weird things when the battery starts to die. The alternator or as it is called by Jeep and Chrysler on the newer vehicles, the Generator, is basicly used to MAINTAIN the battery. when it starts to go (the battery) the computer falls low on voltage and causes all kinds of weird things like dash instruments go wacky and all kinds of things.

Get a new battery

Had my Battery and Alt tested. Everything is working fine. She wont start now without shutting her self off. Currently waiting on a tow truck to take her to a dealer to get serviced. Yahh Free roadside assistance :D

I'll keep you guys posted.

Just get a new battery before the stealership rapes ya.

All it needs is a battery. They can test fine but once drained even a little bit they will cause the KJ to die.

TRUST ME ON THIS

DON'T LET THE DEALERSHIP TOUCH IT!!!!!!!!!!

This is one of the reasons I have been away for a while. Somebody asks for advice and what to do and then ignores the advice given.

The battery is dying. PEROID! don't let the stealership do a bunch of crap you don't need.

Well I have taken the your advice and plan on getting a new battery :D When I get it back. I brought it to the "stealership" because she still has warranty on her.
I plan on going to the local NAPA here because I know the owner and she will prob give me a deal on a battery. Any brand in particular you guys recommend? Thnx

depends on what you do with your kj.

Any old "Stock" battery will do ya just fine for a Daily Driver Grocery Getter.

If you have any add ons like lights, cb, what ever and u use it to have fun off road. Most of us IMHO, have and recomend Optima batteries. Yellow or Red top batteries.

Better battery take a lot of punishment but definatley over kill if it satys on the street all the time. You NAPA guy can get you one or look around online. Lots of places offering low and free shipping on stuff no days.

Otherwise, the standard replacement battery from NAPA will be just as good as anything else you can put in there. If you get a deal, go for it.

One other thought is on "Warantees".

One thinks of a Warantee as protection for you on expensive repairs. That is the marketing way of looking at it and that is why we buy the extended coverage (guilty as charged).

One other aspect is that the warantee is a leash the dealership holds to get you back into thier service bays. Once in there they are "Obliged" to run all kinds of diagnosticts and evaluate your problem. Most times they find other "NON warantee" issues and tell you that you need to have it fixed. Not doing so will cause all kinds of problems and WONT be covered under warantee.

Next thing you know you are paying for unneccessary repairs and all kinds of not covered fees like EPA disposal fees, Shop Towel Fees, so on and so forth.

Warantees are great. Just make sure you know exactly what is wrong and your car needs BEFORE you take it to them.

Yes I have trust issues. Had an air conditioner condenser in the wife's 02 KJ start to leak around one of the mounts. took it to the stealership where they looked at it and low and behold a puncture in the coil was discovered and there for it was entered into the computer as road damage and NOT covered. they wanted over 900.00 to repair and said it could only be done there. cost me 95.00 in shop fees to have it put back together as is!!

I pitched a HUGE fit with the service manager took my wife's KJ to a trusted shop and had got it repaied for 385.00 (with NO shop towel fees or EPA crap).

Took the part with me back to the stealership with photographs and demanded a full refund as i showed them a clear slice in the coil made by a slotted screwdriver, RIGHT NEXT TO THE MOUNT LEAK that would have been covered under warentee.

The shop manager called in the service guy who took in the job, turned out he had a small pocket screw driver that fit the slice EXACTLY.

The service guy was fired on the spot and a full refund for my repair was issued that day.

Point being is that they want your car in there to find additional revenue generating stuff. and even if they can't find anything they still hit you for the fees they say they HAVE to charge.

Yes I have issues.

Wow Woody, they really gave you the shaft. All dealerships are not bad tho. I know a couple of the mechanics who have been working there for years. Small town dealership. Anything I can get done by him outside the dealer I do. But I totally understand where your coming from.

Well I can see mods coming in the future so, I may dish out on a good battery now.

I would get a Red Top. At least stay away from the Mopar batteries. You'll be having the same problems in a couple years.

I would only use the small dealerships if you absolutely have to use a dealership. The big 5 star dealerships have been terrible for me too. Misdiagnosing problems, taking weeks to do what they say they can do in days, over charging me, flat out lying to me, etc. Never again for me. The last time was when I took the KJ in for an alignment, and alternator upgrade. Within 24 hours the condensor had a big non-repairable leak on the driver's side near the mount on the back side. They claimed it must have been a rock hit the day they worked on it even though there was no way a rock could hit it there. Within a couple days, my calipers were sticking and my frozen Powerslot rotors were warped. About $1600 worth of problems magically appeared in things I had absolutely no problems with before.
