Lately I've been noticing a low/quiet whine while accelerating. Closest sound I can match it to is if you imagine holding an electric motor and forcing the shaft to spin - that's similar to the what I'm hearing. Just started hearing this a few days ago... is it just the cold playing tricks with me or is there something wrong? |

sounds like its from the front and only does when my foots on the gas. Doesn't do the whine while idling. |

Does it get louder with speed? Bearings, wheel and or differential? |

Could be the power steering. Mines been making all sorts of noises when its cold.. |

doesn't get louder as I drive, only happens while accelerating from any speed Aside from the strange noise theres nothing wrong with how it handles or drives... I'll check the fluids tomorrow in the daylight and chalk it up to the cold =/ |

My power steering pump started with a little whine, then got obnoxiously louder as time went on. It only made the sound in the morning on cold start up for a couple of minutes, and drove fine the rest of the day. I replaced the pump and now I'm good to go. I don't know if you're in the same situation are not, just putting my info out there. |

Could be your alternator whining. Or someone put a supercharger under the hood. Have you noticed any butt dyno results lately? |

Should we assume this only happens while in motion? If you accelerate while parked does it make this whine? I had a whine once when I accelerated - I pop'd a wheelie and that was the end of her - or I mean the whine noise. |

Does this happen when you have someone sitting in your passenger seat? Does it sound like it is coming from that direction? Is it anyone specific like significant other, kid, or even pet? |

I vote for power steering pump as well. When sitting at rest idling, move the steering wheel. If its the ps pump, it will make noise. If thats the case, check the fluid. If the fluid is old and nasty, change it. Use ATF+4 and it will probably make less noise. If the fluid is all foamy like mine, then you have a small leak somewhere thats letting air in which will cause it to make noise. I've read that the seals will sometimes shrink in the winter and leak in air which is why it makes noise in the cold only. Finally, the pump could just be getting old... |
