| Post subject: | Need some comparison information from other 45RFE owners |
I am looking for comparison information from other KJ owners with the 45RFE transmission. I am trying to find out what is the normal converter lock up speed in 4th gear cruise. Mine only seems to lock up in 4th when I hit about 60 MPH. I have had the custom tire size set in the PCM/TCM (whichever they set it in). I suspect that I should be getting TC lock in 4th earlier than 60 mph. If I lock out overdrive I get it almost immediately after shifting into third. If I then click the OD button again, It shifts to 4th locks the TC and then immediately unlocks the TC. What is your experience? |

How heavy are you on the gas? From what Ive read, easy on the gas should be around 40-50mph with the 45rfe. Let others with the 45rfe post before you take my word. If Im heavy on the gas with my 42rle it will stay unlocked till I let up on the gas. |

This is really light on the gas. Even steady cruise won't lock until I hit 60. |

My 45RFE won't lock until 40mph in 4th gear(OD). |

Is it a very noticeable lock up, similar to a gear change? |

If mine is not locking in OD until 60, but is locking in 3rd just after the shift, what could be causing this? |

My OD has always locked in at 63-64 mph. For best highway mileage i usually get up to 65mph then settle back down to 60-62. I dont think it unlocks till around 55 or so. |

Thanks for the response. That seems to be what mine is doing. I would like to get a more solid OD converter lock at around 40-45 MPH for round town driving. I think it would really improve mileage. |

Talk to Wayne at APS Precision. He can get you an upgraded torque converter and a reprogramming kit that will make you very happy with the 45RFE. |

TCC lockup at about 60 - 61 MPH is normal for the 45RFE. This is of course, under light throttle. The 42RLE (and most other autos) tend to lock up around 40 MPH. |

Thanks for all of the help. Glad to hear that it is normal. I really didn't want to pay the stealership another $100 to check it out. |
