Hello all,

I recently picked up a Liberty from auction. it was hit in the left fender, left front door, and left rear door. The windshield had also been damaged. I've put it all back together, but I'm having issues with the speedometer. Something may have gotten wet, so I wanted to see if anyone has run in to this issue.

When I hit the gas pedal all the lights (abs, air bag, seatbelts, fuel, etc) light up on the dash. In addition, the light on the radio dims. Once I let off the gas it returns to normal. Any ideas?

Picture after new parts were put on (not bad for $2850):

It's a 2006 with gas. Build date: March 22, 2006

I'm going out on a limb here a bit as a) I'm not all that good on vehicle electronics and b) to the extent I am "ok" on Jeep electronics it's with the CRD. If this was a nice simple old fashioned vehicle with a cable connection between the "go" pedal and the carb. I'd say it's likely you have a bare wire that's getting grounded on that cable when it moves a bit when you press the "go" pedal. I know a cable existed on earlier models of the KJ for the simple reason that there is a hole for it in the firewall but I'm not sure if that's what you have on yours. If you do check for what I just said. If there is no cable your "go" pedal is drive by wire and I would say there is a wiring problem associated with the other end of the drive by wire systems (for example the 06 CRD has a bundle of wiring running behind the fuel filter head on the firewall above the steering column and that bundle can get pinched and do weird things).

Do you have electronic stability control (ESP) if so I wonder if a bad left side (front or rear) wheel sensor could do weird things when the "go" pedal is pressed.

Thoughts:
1. go to http://colorado4wheel.com/manuals/Jeep/KJ/ and download a copy of the 06 FSM (get the 05 also as it has the illustration keys that the 06 lacks).
2. send an email to Keith at GDE (http://www.greendieselengineering.com/g ... ethod=home). He is a CRD person but knows KJ electronic systems and might have a helpful hint even for a gasser.

Awesome, thanks for all the suggestions. I'll do some additional digging on this. I'll post the fix if I find one.

Thanks again!
