Anyone have pics of the liberty with some big round 100w bulbs on the bumper? I'm thinking of getting a pair and then also a set of 4 square 50watt baja lights for the roof... Any ideas/suggestions? Would I be better off getting 50watt bulbs for the bumper that way I can legally drive with them (I think)?

Better to check what is legal before you buy anything!

as far as I know where I live, 50watt bulbs are legal for street driving, 100w are not. So the 100w bulbs I want on my bumper will be for off road/back road driving only. The 50w on the roof will be fine. So no pics?

maybe different UP THERE but you can not run roof lights on the stret everyday, thats why 50 watt fog lights are on the bumper, also with 50s up high you lose a bit of the light before it hits the ground, having 100s/130s up high is better for longer distance

pics..there are a ton in the picture section of peoples lights, I have the factory fogs in the ARB and also 130s on the bumper

Are 50's on the bumper allowed? Even though I have factory foglights?

Wrong place to ask this question, Local or State DMV is the place for this info.

What the hell just do it, I did.

Check out section 177:

Dry reading, but it'll give you the relevant regs about lighting your Jeep...

Don't know of any states that allow 100w lights to be uncovered during on-highway use.....but to hell with 'em.

If you do a little research, you'll find there are 65w (legal) lamps out there that are higher output than most low-quality Chinese-made off-road lights with crappy mirrors (reflectors) and over-voltage, poorly focused bulbs.

High beams from a BMW (late '80's) with 9005 65w Toshiba HIR1 bulbs..almost as bright as my 100w aircraft landing lights!

I'm thinking I will look at a set of hella 500s on the front bumper in the new year. And wow, that was a dry read, I didn't even find anything about headlight specifics :S

Yup, pretty dry.......and vague. In California, the CVC refers to compliance codes, such as "Title 13", which, in this case, defines the proper output of a steady red light used for emergency use.

(I know this as I once designed a red light to be sold and used legally in KZ100 police bikes fairings...had to submit it to testing for compliance such as proper color of red, and beam pattern and intensity at certain angles...pain in the stupid. And for the record, the old lightbars the CHP was using, before the LED stuff, was NOT legal for use in California as it did not comply with Title 13 requirements for steady red lights....they got a "testing exemption" from the CHP commissioner...Seems Federal Signal Corp gave the CHP many light bars since they knew that other states look to CA for emergency lighting trends....its all about $$$$)
