I see in the search that a few people have had issues with the speed sensor on the rear diff. My speedo died the other day. I pulled it cleaned it off cheaked the wiring and still no speedo. Called the dealership and they said there is also two speed sensors in the tranny. What should I do next? thanks |

hmm, not sure if those speed sensors in the tranny have anything to do with the speed-o. Speed sensors in the tranny monitor the speeds of the input and output shafts. |

So I should probably just order the axle speed sensor and go from there hugh. |

The 2 speed sensors in the trans has nothing to do with the speedo like jeepjeepster said. Might want to check your wires again, the same thing happened to me and it turned out that one of the wires was broken inside the terminal itself and not visible.Talk about a royal pain in the butt fixing. |

Alright, thanks guys. Luckily its not a huge expense but i will definetly check my wires again, hate to spend 50bucks I dont need to. I dont know if this matters but it first started jumping up and down then just gave me really low readings then it died and got the 0500 engine code. |

Thanks again guys. I checked the wiring again and picked up a sensor from the dealership. It was indeed the sensor. Just glad I dont have to look at the little number on my gps anymore for my speed. |

Glad you got it fixed! haha, I look at my gps and scan gauge for my speed more than I do the speedo. |

Sorry slight hijack. I had a wild thought. If you have the 231 transfer case, what is different about it compared to the one used in TJs? My thought was could you do the calculations (or use an online chart) and put a speedo gear in it like is used on the TJ then splice the wiring from the output of that gear into the harness that currently runs to the speed sensor in the diff? What would stop something like that from working? If it could work somehow, it would be an easy work around for the guys doing the SFA swaps too. |

I think people have had the same thought and if I remember right the tj sensor is as 3 wire and kj is a 2 wire. |

There is no speedo location in the KJ's t-case,any of them be it the 231,241,or 242.Plus the TJ and XJ's us a Hall Effect speed sensor(3 wires) and the KJ uses a A/C signal generator(tone ring and sensor,2 wire) to operate the speedo.I posted what you need to do if you replace the OEM t-case to a RockTrac or AtlasII in the SFA section, will cost about$300 in parts but is 100% tuneable without a visit to the dealership ever.
