Who here has roof baskets? Please post pics and include the brand name of your gear, where you got it, and how much it ran ya. I'm looking for one for my KJ, but I don't have factory cross bars. Looking for models that mount on the side bars. Thanks guys! Your input is welcome. |

Real easy and cheap to make cross bars 30 bucks or less mines a BMG that a lot of us got off of Overstock a few years back for like 40/50 bucks shipped or something like that Mine DOES NOT sit on the side bars as they sit way too high I think and look added on , not part of the roof rack like it should
sits nice and low not 6 inches above the top , made my own air deflector for the front to cut noise and make it flow smoother |

I'm not into welding...yet. no welding at all, there are a couple of different ways to do it, both mine and XC204 s way are posted in the Fabrication section, both ways are pretty strong, I have had 3 MTRs on wheels on top of mine plus me but read through both are basically bolt on, just different ideas |

Inc wrote: I made this one that sat on the roof rails with no cross rails. Held on with U bolts. Worked like a champ but like jsc7002 said, killed my mpgs so I sold it for more than I made it. I miss having it because of the fuel can mounts though. I am still figuring out what I want to do for those and my spare tire.
me too Ive actually been thinking about putting my spare back on the tailgate but moving it closer to the hinge to decrease the amount of leverage on the tailgate so hopefully it wont sag. that or Ill have a tire carrier that attaches to my hitch |

I run my rack all the time, only had it off a few days a year or so agao to measure up for a custom built one, other than that I can't see any real lose in mileage, maybe 1/2 mile or so |

mine is an XFactor, by Rage ..for now it sits on mopar rails but at times I do take it off and use the rails on their own. Not an oversize rack but enough for my needs.

Home made. About $20 for material but a whole bunch of hours figuring out how I wanted it.

i would like to see the Jeep OEM rack mounted to directly to the side rails. How does this rack compensate for the difference in width from fron tto back? |

it has like u or v shaped arms coming from the top and bottom of the basket over to the rails , one on each corner. I know that there are some pictures here somewhere but can't find them now |

so is the basket tapered or is there just more overhang on one end? |

The one I have seen here in town it appeared to be about the same width as the rails in the rear and in the front just sat in farther ( basket was the same size front and rear) looked like a Mopar one anyways. Got to be some pictures on here someplace of one |

I guess everybody has seen this before, but what the hell....
As far as what it costs... Not as much as they are selling for now as I jumped on Marty's early promotional offering. Can't remember what it costs (The mind tends to forget those types of things) but I will say it is worth it. |

Yeah well, if Marty's website were up I'd gladly consider dropping some coin on that basket because I like it. I just can't figure out how to mount a basket when I don't have the factory cross bars. I was going to fabricate bars like Tommudd did and buy the Rola roof basket, but it looks like the Rola attatchment brakets won't work with round tubing. I'm at a brick wall with that. And I'm not spending some $150 on factory crossbars just so I can drop another $150-250 on a roof basket. |
