Ever just have one of those moments/brain farts?

Yesterday I was out changing the oil on the jeep. Had it up on ramps, since I can't crawl under it comfortably..(I'm thicker). lol

Drained all the oil out, swapped filters, and had it ready to put oil in it. I find my self in the seat ready to back it off of the ramps so I can pour oil in the engine. Talk about beating yourself up, I was so close to turning the key. Realized what I was doing at the last second and beat the crap out of myself!

Just felt so stupid the whole day, been changing oil as long as I can remember and I almost do something like that!

It happens. That is the reason they have checklists that more than one person goes over on critical stuff like that on airplane maint. All it takes is one distraction to ruin your day. Next time leave one Qt on the seat to remind you. (of course, I would do that and then run around trying to remember where I left that one qt.!!! )

at least you didn't dump 5 quarts through without reinstalling the drain plug! And no, I don't know from experience....yet. :D

Never forgot to fill oil but did once fill oil untill it came out the rocker cover...

Stupid pump didn't work and kept on going after it hit the mark I set...

And I once (or twice ) forgot to pump the brakes after changing pads....get's your blood flowing when you hit the pedal and it sinks right to the bottom.

i have done the brakes thing to. i did my brakes up at school on a snowy day started backing out of the garage and then HOLY doo doo WTF NO BRAKE PRESSURE! OMG A CURB....stops just in time after pumping the brakes like mad while rolling backwards.....that scared the crap out of me. that was my stupid moment.

Haha, I guess I have done the brake thing before too. Was changing them with my dad once when I was younger and he p'd me off, so I was leaving when he was saying "..wait!" and I just continued to back out (driveway is gravel and downhill 100 yards). Needed a change of pants when the peddle went to the floor!

Too funny. I do something like that at least once a day. Where the F IS IT??!!!??!! I know I had it RIGHT HERE!!! (Kicks nearest object, which bangs into something else, creating giant mess to clean up. Immediately remembers where IT is while now searching for shop towels).

Just never start up the vehicle before making sure all the spark plug wires are re-attached. It's a very shocking experience, ...or so I've heard.

I've dropped all the engine oil when I inadvertently knocked the O-ring off the filter after changing mine.

When I was a kid in school, I was the first one to finish rebuilding my lawn mower engine. Got it started, and it screamed beautifully. Except, I forgot the throttle return spring. So here's this motor bolted to the table, doing max rpm, and the teacher's yelling at me to turn it off...

So a brain fart hit me, and I thought, "Oh! I'll just pull the plug wire off, it's insulated!". BZZZZZZZZZZZZZT!!

I like it when somebody asks me "ya think those plug wires are bad?" "Dunno, grab one and we'll find out"

It never gets old

My dumbest moment while working on a vehicle was when I was at the Ford dealership, 3rd day after finally being named Service Manager, car comes in on a tow truck, older lady had been trying to start it for a week or so in cold weather. Being covered up in the shop I jumped on it, replaced the plugs and finally got it to fire up and run a little but it was smokin' / coughing/ bleaching like everything. I told the guys I will be back in a few minutes let me run this thing down the road and clean it out good. Took off 1.5 to 2 miles down the road KABOOM, big time explosion, but starts running real good though....until I look back and see smoke out the back, lots of smoke, more smoke stop and pull over, it was a 76 Mercury I think , rubber like piece between the bumper and body was on fire, look underneath and fire all around the gas tank area, start to walk to get help.....yep gas tank explodes. Whole dang car on fire now. Here her son had poured "lots" of gas down into the engine trying to get it started and the best we could determine whole exhaust system was then one big gas tank until......muffler / convertor go hot enough and boom
talk about feeling like a DUMB ARSE!!!

my stupid moment cost my management ALOT of money.... forgot to fully drop the rack at work before backing out a car... a volkswagen r32. rack arm went through the radiator and tore the front bumper straight off the front end. i guess i was wanting to test drive it with the new rims a little to much.

I was just at my brother in laws shop, had 5 big lifts. They were working on a flatbed 1ton Chevy 6.5 diesel. The removed intake and both heads for a rebuild, lifted the truck up in the air to clean under it. Well, that'sd a lot of weight for a diesel, needless to say, his insurance had to pay to repair both doors as the rear of truck hit the floor and arms of lift jammed under truck and crushed rockers/doors.
When I first got my car @ 16yrs old, 72 cutlass, decided to "steam clean" the engine at a high pressure car wash, right after I drove it. Needless to say, it ran pretty bad for a few days with a cracked dist cap since I sprayed cold water on a hot engine.

Funny enough, this happened to me too! Guy had tried to start his car all morning before deciding to give me a call.

I found the electrical part of the ignition key didn't work right. So I changed it, turned the key, engine starts to cough and just before it starts to run.....KABOOM....

Except mine didn't burn to the ground :D

Come to think of another silly thing I've done lately: refitting the cowl but not the washer tubes  figering that out 2 seconds after I refitted the wiperarms...
