Well coming home from the blue ridge parkway
pulled in the drive of the house and saw the smoke crawl out from under the hood of the kj
quick scan all the gauges were fine cut off the jeep
jumped out to check under the hood firest thought being that and electrical fire or wire short
but upon lifting the hood I found anti-freeze all over the engine compartment
so electrical fire it is not .....next guess busted radiator hose upper or lower....
closer inspection ......coolent leaking from what looks like behind the lower motor pulley so
WATER PUMP........
now the good news
AAA tows to dealership
Dealership replaces for $100 deductable
and the libby rolls again

BUt water pump blowing up with only 48000 miles on a jeep :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?:
WTF does this mean that right after the powertrain goes I can look forward to replacing it again
This is crazy ..........Is this normal for a liberty?????

Its a wearable part, I have replaced them before ( not on a Jeep) at 25,000
my old Cherokee had over 265,000 when I sold it and the water pump was still good.
The one on my KJ is over 115,000 now
Its one of those man made things which may fail at any time

i know i think it was more a vent than anything else
and as a general rule they fail around 100000
and that it half that so I was just a little ticked

thank god for that jeep powertrain warranty guess its a good think it went out now instead of later

thanks for the rant

Post subject:  speaking of water pumps.....

My dilema..... I am replacing a leaking PS pump, and while I'm at it, also the serp belt and tensioner......so do I go ahead and do the H2O pump & t-stat too while I already have all that crap off the front of the engine?? As it is, I bought the special tools to remove the darn fan and shroud just to do this job.

I think I just answered my own ?....... guess I might as well do it now, w/ my luck, the H2O pump will give out shortly after doing all the other work anyway! :?

Every Chevy I've had, killed the waterpump at 50K miles
maybe Jeep copied the design?

Replaced the water pump on our zj just before 100k but its been fine since(167k now). Xj has the stock pump at almost 90k.

KJ is fine at 37k.

Hemi is fine at 16k.

also they took care of the LBJ recall replacement while it was there

now i just need the rain to stop long enough to do the plugs and fluids ...

they are about due.....

anyone know of a good place to flush a tranny in the W-S area
i could drain and change but that dosent get all the fluid out

I had to replace mine at 67,000 miles.

I have a Glock 19 as well. Love it. We have great gun laws in PA too. I conceal carry mine all the time. No need for a permit to open carry, though
