Depends on vehicle.

ORV = Auto

Sportscar = Manual

Since this is a Jeep site I voted Auto.

DD usually an auto, but for a trail rig/ fun toy a manual.

nothing better than running anything through the gears but for a everyday driver in and out of traffic a manual gets real tiring I don't care what

In general being the key phrase, manual. Trucks and suv's, auto. I wont own a car unless it's a manual.

Manual: twice the gearing options on & off-road and in many cases, crawl ratios that only a doubler or a high-zoot transfer case can allow an auto to match. A clutch is much easier to replace than an auto is to rebuild. In most cases, they have much greater ability to survive water exposure. And if you choose to drive in a way to piss off everyone around you, you can easily exceed EPA estimates.

But my '80 is being converted from 4spd to auto, and one of the reasons is the ease of driving in daily traffic. My wife cannot even drive a stick anymore after her dead-guy ACL transplant.

Kids now a days :roll: :lol: :lol: :lol:
everyone should be taught to drive a manual in Drivers Ed classes, that and change a tire, be part of the drivers test, would take a lot of idiots off the road :wink:

For technical offroading(AKA rockcrawling) a auto is the way to go.................

Good...........

1-less "shock" loads on the drivetrain due to the TC taking all the shock loads
2-no need to worry about that 3rd pedal if your not geared low enough
3-can be modified to handle more power without going to a bigger trans
4-lighter

Bad...........
1-high heat build up that needs to be cooled
2-trans pan is a weak point
3-lower crawl ratios(actually need lower ratios to operate correctly)

The good points highly outway the bad in the auto vs manual.

I like running gears on most anything, but the best is in a long nose Pete with a kitty cat up front ( turned up just a little :twisted: ), 8 inch straight stacks and the jake on full at 3 A.M. with a full moon, running east out of Denver

got the picture :wink:
