| Post subject: | #2 Cylinder Misfire |
Can someone Please tell me where the #2 Cyclinder is located? I did find somewhere that someone said front right. However is that if your standing in front of the Jeep? Any help is appreciated. Today I bought all NEW Plugs, and one NEW Coil pack just in case. I will be chaging these in the AM out in the 0 degree weather we are having. LOL Thanks again. |

Thanks - Where did you find your info? What you sent me is quite the opposite of anything I've been able to find. Just want to be sure, so I can narrow down a Possible bad plug, connection or even bad coil pack. Thanks again. Very much appreciated.!!!!! |

Ok today I changed all the Plugs and a NEW Coil pAck on #2 Clyinder. Same thing. Still got a "Tinging Noise" Rough idle and flashing engine light. No indications led up to this problem other the a change in our weather. Extreme cold. Maybe a Bad Injector? Still Frozen? Loose rocker arm? Any insight or suggestions are welcome, and awaiting for any help you guys can give. I want to give my mechanic a place to start and what was done. Awaiting to hear from you guys! Thanks. |

Time to check the compression on that cylinder. If its low it could be a valve spring. Flashing light means the cats could be damaged. Guess from raw fuel going out the exhaust. |

catalytic converters. JeepJeepster is correct. when raw fuel is dumped into the catalytic converters, IE from a misfire, it sits until it burns off...inside the cat, which damages the magical pixie dust that converts harmful monoxides into air that is cleaner than the air that went into the engine No, I'm not joking. btw, pinging would indicate a lean mixture. Could have an injector not firing properly? CEL wouldn't flash though...curious. |

Ok let me go into some more detail, as I should have: 2003 Jeep Liberty Sport 3.7L 106K MILES Before changing the plugs, I had the Tinging" noise. NO Flashing CEL Unless reved alittle above 1K Rpm) then it would flash Changed "ALL" Plugs and "NEW" Coil pack for cylinder#2 Engine Starts no problem Idles rough "Still Tinging" (Now the cell is flashing). I Also thought about the "injector" however I didn't think it would or could cause the "tinging noise"? The Number #2 Plug I pulled was charcol black, and very wet - all others are normal, but was due for a change for sure. |

the "tinging" sound could be detonation from a lean mixture, caused by a malfunctioning injector. That is theory, do not put any stock in it. |

How hard is it to change out a Injector? Thoughts? Certanly has to be the next cheapest thing to try right? Sorry I'm on a budget like the rest of the country. I want to make sure I can't nip this in the butt myself before I send her off to the shop. Thanks for the input much appreciated! |

if it's sooty and black, it is probably not a problem with the injector. is it oily? |

I wouldn't say oily, but it was wet more like gas wet, becuase after having it out it's like real dry now. I would think if it were oil it would still present itself as wet. right? or wrong? |

One of my techs has spent the last 5 years with a Chrysler dealer...he mentioned the 05-6s having some issues when we were talking about my rough idle (he chalks it up to normal 3.7 idle) He did mention that they're prone for head warpage though (no surprise there, being an aluminum head) |
