Your problem is probably the actual wiring going into the top of the rear diff. Since the diff is moving around so much the wiring will eventually wear out, gotta replace it.

When the dealer messed with the connector they had to move the harness around, this is worked for a little while longer.

Mine did this as well. I fixed mine for .59 cents the cost for a roll of electrical tape, and she's been working ever since. This is a common issue where the wires rub thru. Easy fix.

My sensor actually went bad. But as people have stated the wires can short.

Well, I had my speedometer 'fixed' but now I am having the same problems again.

Could someone by any chance please post instructions and possibly pictures on how to fix the rear differential wires myself? I really don't have the extra cash to be giving to the dealer with the economy the way it is.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How did they 'fix' it the last time?

Crawl up under the rear of the Jeep and take a look at it. Usually I have pictures of everything but thats one thing that I do not. The sensor comes right out of the top of the center section(pumpkin) so its easy to spot.

I do believe you can buy a 'kit' that replaces the connector altogether. Maybe tjkj will chime in, Ive seen him talk about it before.

When my speedo stopped working the wires inside the connector itself was broken, talk about fun fixing.I ended up cutting the connector off and soldering the wires directly to the pins in the speedo sensor, then filling with RTV to seal it all up.

Thanks for the replies...

I looked underneath at the wiring and connector and don't see anything offhand to tip me off what the problem is.

Would I be looking for a broken wire, or should I be checking the entire line to see if something is grounding out?

The dealer sells a kit to fix this. I did it on mine last year cause the speedo was jumping around. The wires near that connector are prob broken. I believe the parking brake rubs the wires in addition to the diff moving around and that causes the wires to fracture.
I think the repair kit cost around $30. Basically consists of a new connector with 8 or so inches or wire for you to splice in. No biggie.

Although I dropped a nice blob of molten solder on my forearm whilst soldering upside down under there.

C'est la vie....

Great to know.. a 30 dollar collector to splice in sounds great. Can't go wrong with the color coding.

Molten Solder + Skin = Bad
