Ok..side by side at about 35 mph on LV Blvd this Beemer decides to turn left from the right lane. Knocked me HARD! but with weight advantage did not move much..UNTLIL..the front C ?? snapped in two and I was turning right like it or not and ended up in a sign in the rocks. Is this thing REALLY that fragile from side impact? Don't know how to post pics  but short vid on youtube. " liberty after crash " should get you there. This looks like a SOLID piece of metal that snapped in two. Little upset and can't remember name??? C- something?? will feel silly when someone mentions name but everyone knows the part I mean. Prob ripped the cv boot and the upper arm was jammed into the tire ( no puncture i could see) and my renny sitting there with really bad angle broken rt front. Can you say EXtreme toe out!! So :?: should i take ins money and repair custom or just let stealership fix. Not sure if I will have option but have been looking for custom bumper anyway. Ideas? AND what WTF about this thing breaking where and how it did it did?? This did happen almost instantly (but in slow motion if u know what i mean) and was direct impact on rt frnt wheel..some of his fender wedged in wheel as proof. This happened about an hour ago and going from little upset to PISSED  stupid beemer...grrrr

maybe if its possible, try to work out a deal to get an ARB bumper on there! it might cost you a little, it all depends on how much they charge for a bumper cover/paint/labor, might be better off with the ARB!!

that sucks though! im sure what ever it is, its fixable though, maybe it didnt bend the crossmember or the frame at all, maybe you lucked out on that part, hopefully!

awesome libby though! i lvoe the wheels and tires, looks great!

Post subject:  broken front

the major break i think is called the knuckle. large c shape upper and lower control arms attatch to. very large piece of metal, surprised that is the part to break. i know with minor damage the insurance cut you a check for damage but this a little more. other driver cited..local atty right behind me as witness.. should have faked neck pain because he was personl injury lawyer and told the cop the beemer turned right into me  . Thanks for the link jsc.. gotta learn how to do that  . If i get a check i am thinking definatly ARB time. The cost of factory replacement at body shop price has to be way more. With suspension damage OME springs prob go on list now too..Any other suggestions or ideas appreciated. Maybe we should drive in two's and rip all beemers  in half...tow straps front and rear...hmmmm....

i know how you feel... i was rear-ended and all total damage was $2,500. The "plastic bumper" was quoted at $250. I used that money and put it towards my RL Komodo Dragon Rear Bumper. Also, the entire tail gate (back door) was crumpled.

The worst of all THE ****ING PAIN in my back and neck!!!!!!!!!!

That would be the knuckle, did it actually break or did the upper ball joint pull out of the socket on the control arm? You are right it is a heavy cast piece and I would expect other parts to fail before it, but hey what do I know? :P

yea people dont pay attention, was the driver of the BMW on his/her cell phoen too? i dont know how amny times i have been cut off to the point i was sliding almost sideways because people dont pay attention

i had a box truck pull in front of me before at the last second, i slammed on my brakes and slid on the wet road right into the wheel/cab area, $3600 on mine, bumper cover, grill, hood, rad support, ac condensor, i was stupid for not hinking about the ARB at the time, but my jeep was bone stock then

Too bad to see a beauty like that smashed up. You will at least want a good shop to look at it and make sure you just need parts. It would be worth a couple hundred bucks for the piece of mind (imho). That thing would look sweet with an ARB on it! I stay away from the boulevard if I can help it. Too many close calls.

The knuckle actually broke. The ball joints still attatched..the upper was jammed into the tire. A clean snap above the spindle and looks like cv shaft is bent along with the tie rod. She is currently held captive at Ewing Bros towing until the ins adjuster can get around to looking at her. Always sleeps in the garage so they better hurry. The guy was using GPS to find an address and "it" told him to turn around. I guess GPS should be programmed to say "look first..then turn around" but no U turn from the far right lane.I was close to Cashman and I too avoid the boulevard as much as possible. Tourist consider the strip ends at Sahara even though LV Blvd continues north. Unfortunatly we in Vegas can't blame all the bad driving on tourist..most are afraid of us locals and NEVER venture too far from the strip

I'll see you and raise you 1 left front Red KJ. 1st was teenage son getting his nose too close to traffic right after getting his license and he got clipped by a dualie pickup. 2nd was a bambi getting in his way at night. Kids sure are hard on vehicles!

Funny you should say that! My GPS used to say "Make a U-Turn!" whenever I needed to. Then I installed the lastest software patch and they changed it to: "When possible, make a U-turn." in a less urgent voice! I guess after hearing about all those morons blaming crashes on the GPS, they rethought the software!

We actually had 2 crashes in just a few months here where guys got hit by trains (at the same crossing!) after the GPS said "Make a right here." turns out there is a street running parallel to, and directly after the tracks but the morons would see the GPS screen and immediately turn right - onto the tracks, get stuck, and get whacked by a train!

Wow, I sure would have thought a ball joint would have given way before your knuckle did. (or anything BUT the knuckle for that matter) I guess if you hit anything just right though...

and why do you call this a C-Clip? Is it called that in other parts of the country?
