Post subject:  Washer fluid delay in spraying.. Full and not frozen!

This is the first time I have had this happen and I'm not sure why. When i got in the CRD the other day I used the windshield washer sprayer to clean some of the salt off the windshield and it took a few seconds to actually spray the cleaner. I can hear the pump running but it sounds like its empty but its not. It will spray fine after I hold the lever and let the pump run for a few seconds so its not frozen. If I use it and wait the few seconds ( I know sounds like nothing but its normally instant right) it takes for it to pump and spray, then wait about a minute and use it again, everything is fine, sprays out right away the second time(within a few min of the delayed spray). Now if I wait around 5-10+ to use it again it will have the delay again. Any Idea? I have not got around to really checking it out yet because its cold as can be here, so if this is something stupid then sorry for the dumb post.

THanks.

1. Gravity +
2. Cold, shrink, seals (or similar) shrink in washer pump, causes loss or lack of pressure requiring more rpm's (in this case time, aka revs per time period) for same psi (or some similar logic)

3. Thick fluid?/Obstructed lines.
4. Reduced voltage?

Sounds like the fluid may be draining back down into the tank. Not sure where the check valve is for that.

Check to make sure the fluid really isnt frozen. What type of fluid do you have in there?

ya try the check valve just like Jeepjeepster said. i had this problem about 6 months ago. the check valve is under the front cowl on the passenger side. take the check out and blow all three lines out to see if there plugged. if that dose not fix it take the check apart and take the diaphram out. i had to do this to mine and now it works fine but takes .2 of a second longer to get a stream going. do you use rain-x or anything with teflon? thats what i believed caused my problems.

Yeah It is definitely* draining back down into the reservoir, and I think my girl friend did use the orange rain-x stuff... maybe that's the problem? Do you think the Teflon screwed up a seal or something?

Yeah It is defiantly draining back down into the reservoir, and I think my girl friend did use the orange rain-x stuff... maybe that's the problem? Do you think the teflon screwed up a seal or something?

Such defiance will not be tolerated!

(my speel check puts defiant over definite too)

my guess is that rain-x mixing with good old blue causes it to gum up line and the check valves

I use rain-x in 3 of our Jeeps with no issues. SOOO, your GIRL friend takes care of the cars for you?

HA yeah, she asked me to put it in for her but I forgot and left for work. I didn't tell her not to use the rainx, i didnt think there was a good reason to not use it ha. I used the rest of the rainx today and put normal blue stuff in, man that stuff has went up in price!

Anyone know where I can find the check valve? Or just go to the dealership?

im guessing its probably a dealer part only and whether they would stock something like that. if your having problems with it, all you have to do it take it apart and remove the guts of the valve and problem solved. now it dose take and extra .1 of a second longer but its not something i was concerned about
