Is there a way to upgrade the stock renegade lightbar bulbs? I am sure that there is, but how big of wattage can I go and which brand is the best? |

i am in the same boat. I was the one that asked about HID's that are in the for sale section being put in the roof bar. I am not sure exactly what bulb type they are tho? I think maybe H4 iirc but really have no clue. |

such a tough question to find the answer to bulbs are 9006 (HB4s) rated at 51 watts each. Have to wonder how much extra wattage the stock wiring would take since anything you do is times 4 |

in my renny lightbar, i put in 4 Sylvania Silverstar Ultras, i love em! i noticed a big difference in the color and quality of light, and it seems to just overall light everything up much better! i try and keep my covers over the lights as much as possible so i dont get tempted to use them on other stupid drivers i have been pulled over twice already for using them as my bright lights. when i see a car coming, i turn em off, just as i would do with my bright headlights, but 2 of the times they have been cops that did a u-turn after i pass em hehe, oops! they didnt give me a ticket, they just said dont use them on the street, and for that split second that they WERE on, it was like looking into the sun he said. in my head i thought "awesome!" |

I found these PIAA bulbs on amazon. They might be better than stock. http://www.amazon.com/PIAA-10926-9006-I ... B000MG630I |

They make HID kits that replace the same size bulbs that are in the lightbar but... --You have to find a location for the ballasts to live. Maybe slim ballasts could live under the plastic lightbar cover. Otherwise they need to mount under the headliner and the cable has to go through the roof to the lights. --You have to make sure the lights and ballast are made well enough to live with offroading. Most of this aftermarket HID stuff is cheap Chinese crap because it is illegal to put a retrofit on a car. --You have to make sure the switch and wiring can handle the initial power draw of the lights ignition (x4). Otherwise, some sort of staggered or delayed pull, otherwise run more wires. --You have to make sure the HIDs don't throw too much light on the windshield or you have wasted your time (stock bean pattern are pencil beams, I think). After ignition, the HIDs should draw less power (33w per bulb instead of 51 w) than the stock bulbs in the light bar (a major plus). I found one set of LED offroad lights used by the military that was posted somewhere on this or some other site. They were not priced too bad, but they were a complete sealed headlight designed to fit in the JK headlight's spot and replace it outright. Needless to say, this is pretty involved and it is where I stopped looking into it further. |
