On my drive in to work this morning when taking the off ramp my check oil light came on. I was a block away from work so kept driving, parked and checked the oil; no oil needed. On the way home every time I accelerate the check oil light comes off but when I come to a stop the light come back on. The engine has 118K; what could be the problem?
I'm thinking the oil pressure sensor.....

Just seeing the light come on at every stop is driving me insane

You need a new oil pressure sending unit. The existing one has gone bad. This has happened to a few of us here, including me.

Just to clarify
This is an OIL PRESSURE LIGHT. Not a "check oil" light. BIIIG difference.

The oil pressure light comes on when it senses that oil pressure is low.

The one I'm talking about looks like a genie lamp with a drop oil dripping out. What does the oil pressure light look like??

Amen to that. During my move across the country, I got out to fuel up and my trailer looked like this:

That's oil

I checked the dipstick and the engine was dry. A massive oil leak formed at the turbo and I had no idea all my oil was stuck to the trailer. No lights for you!

It's safe to drive as long as no noises "knocking" or other have developed when the light is activated on your dash.

Change out the sensor and the light goes away.

Well finally got it done. You will needa 1 1/16" deep socket to change it, an open wrench won't work.
