And that is why I never get work done at a dealership, and also why when I get into a wrech, I make sure to write it off |

A '04 KJ that has been modified and has $7700+ damage to it,$6300 trade in sounds more then fair, actually sounds like a very steller deal to me.It wouldn't be on the lot for more then $8000,maybe $8500.Having a damage discloser on the title drops your resale by 20%-40% depending on the vehicle and damage value. I worked at a GM/Chrysler dealership bodyshop.Had a '03 Duramax come in(this was in '03 and it had 2000miles on it) come in with $25,000 worth of damage,it should have been $40,000 but he did not want it totaled so we dropped the frame replacement, which it needed since the GM frames are high strength steel that can not be heated to aid in unbending it.After it was fixed he wanted to trade straight up for another '03 Duramax just like his.The owner told him to piss off, lawyers got involved since we stated his truck would not 100% fixed without the new frame and he signed a agreement to that.In the end he lost and then was sent to prison for 40 years for embezzlement. |

40 years for embezzlement? You must mean 4 years. I've seen murderers get sentenced 10-15. |

tjkj ... OK..I am upset it is taking so long and I understand damage disclosure reducing resale so $8-9k probably more realistic fixed.. BUT with damage 80% susension/ drivetrain how can it be worth $1500 less than the insurance check to fix it??? My math says if i am dealer, I don't fix it.. take the instant $1500 profit and auction the jeep as is...No risk and no loss as well as moving a brand new jeep off the lot ( more profit ) and having a new customer. I guess I am missing something..My Renegade mostly |

I guess I am missing something..My Renegade mostly I'm not trying to be mean,I feel your loss but your KJ is nowhere near $13,400.According to KBB your KJ is worth $6800 in excellent condition(trade in value),which your's is not, your's would be in poor condition considering it has been wrecked and they don't rate them in poor condition.

I think it was worth maybe $8,000 -$9000, private sale not trade in before accident. The INSURANCE CO says it is worth $13,400..so the damge is less than 65% of value and therefor not a total loss and they pay less. My point was/is with a $7800 check from the ins company it should at least be worth THAT much toward a trade for a new jeep. Without the repair check I agree it would be a fair enough offer..more a point to make I guess it still seems they are making $1500 + whatever they sell my jeep for(prob not fix but sell at auction) + profit on new sale. The $7800 is not out of my pocket but it still goes into their bank account.Reality..most guys on this forum could prob get it back together better than it was for less than two grand and a long weekend..ins won't write check for home repairs and I am not that talented with a wrench, however I am thankfull to have a forum with good advise and sometimes to just ...well vent a little. Maybe I will go wheel the rental chrysler 300 this afternoon and blow some steam |

Couldn't you use the $7800 check as a down payment on another vehicle or to pay off what ever you own and just "give the wrecked jeep" to the dealer as is?" I know some insurances will send you the check instead of paying the dealer. Just a thought. |

Yeah, take the check, buy another renegade then use your old one as a parts donor. |

If it is for as is take the check and trade it in,if it is for "fixed" you are not getting ripped off still since they won't get anything for it on the lot or at a auction. They will actually loose money, seen it done many times, they hope to break even but they most likely will not.Sure for you to get it fixed will cost $7800,to them it will cost about $4000,then they paid you $6800 so they are into it for $10,800.If they send it to a auction they may get $5000 for it and they can not sell it for over $10,000 on the lot being a wrecked vehicle that by KBB is not worth that much to start with.

Offer is $6300 AFTER they fix it with the $7800 check. So they are in $6300 + $4000 , their cost to fix for total of $10300 minus $7800 check = $2500 investment for dealer. Unless I am missing something this is how it adds up to me. Plus they profit by selling me a new jeep and I would gladly pay them $5000 to buy my KJ back after they fix it to guarentee them double their investment |
