I'm planning on building some sliders and have a quick question. What what the distance from the frame rail to just under the edge of the body be? I'm using 2x2 tube for actual slider and 2x1 for the mounts. I want the steel for the slider to be fairly flush with the body molding, so what might I need for length for the mounts? Also, does anyone know the length of the space I have for sliders, off the top of my head I say 4' but, I don't know till late tonight and I get home to measure, and I would rather get some quotes now.

Thanks!

the measurement from the pinch weld back to the frame is different all the way back so you need to measure right where you want the legs to mount to the frame to get the right lenghth

Yah, but I was trying to be lazy :) I have to wait till the end of the day, go home, find my tape measure, than figure it out myself, or just ask the great and awesome community here that knows everything, and save the time :)

There is a detailed write up in the Fabrication section with dimensions.

Thanks, I just searched through the fab section and have some really solid ideas. I'm gonna go with 5' lengths of 2x2 3/16" tube for the actual slider, then 1' lengths of 2x1 1/8" for the arms (2 each side) I will use the 2x1 for the cross support between it all as well, likely have a extra 6' length in the middle with a 5' length of 1x1 8/16 across all the arms for extra support. I'm going to use some round tube or pipe for a step bar, and love the idea of mounting it on a upward angle! Do you guys think 6" out from the body is too extreme for the steps?

Sounds like a long way to stick out. On the other hand, ladders to get into the scissor lifts I design are required to keep 6" from the front of the ladder to anything behind it. Allows for plenty of room to get your foot on the rung. Are you actually planning on putting your foot on them?

My idea behind 6" from the tube to the body was 2 fold

1) yes, I or my wife, or anybody would be putting there feet on them. The mopar steb bars we have now are used quite a lot.
2) By having them stick out, they further protect the body, from me sliding into a rock on a trail, to some idiot in a civic parking too clsoe and opening his doors too hard, him hitting the steel would damage his door, and not my Jeep.

I'd do it like you said and for the same reasons. My kid could sure use the steps and the nerf protection would be nice in the woods and parking lots alike. I've gotta get on that someday...

hmm, civic door catcher...I like it. I'd put some grip tape or non-slip paint on them if it were me.
