Post subject:  Loud roar

I am having a loud roar from my engine/trans, been going on for a week and thought it would go away. It happens in 1st through 3rd gear, and it feels bogged down, no check engine lights or codes popping.

Any ideas?

can you describe it any better?

it is basically a loud roar when I accelerate from a stop to about 30-40 mph, Jeep feels more sluggish then it used to. I get up to cruising speeds and all is well, till I get back down to slower speeds it is back.

was just taking a stab at it, if the fan clutch is not unlocking it's making you drag the mechanical fan from 1k-3500 rpm through 1st through 3rd gear and I suppose just because you don't hear it roaring in OD id guess wouldn't mean it isn't still locked in since your OD rpms would be like 1500-2200rpm road noise may be covering it up?

just trying to help figure it out from a simple part standpoint

to check the fan clutch with the engine cold, and OFF.

spin the fan with your hand, if it's impossible to spin, clutch is bad,

if it just freewheels with almost no resistance, clutch is bad

symptoms that you're describing, i'd guess you're going to have alot of difficulty turning the fan by hand if it's indeed the culprit

in otherwords, it's supposed to have a little resistance to it, about as much resistance as pushing a 3litre bottle of coke off a table

at least run it and stick your head under the hood, and try to get an idea of where it is coming from....

yep yep, would be something you could check in like 30 seconds before leaving for work in the morning

it roaring is better than it not roaring at all and the engine over heating, so if thats the problem, you're on the safer side of the issue atleast
