Does anyone know if there is a difference between the 3.7L in the Libby and the 3.7L in the Dodge Dakota? A buddy of mine got a 2006 Dakota 2 weeks before I got my 2006 Libby and we compared motors.. Other then some plastic, they look identical... Done to the dipsticks.. The reason I ask this is because for engine performance stuff.. Some manufactures will put out stuff for a Dodge before they do for a Jeep... Thanks, Ben |

I'm pretty sure they are the same engine, and I agree- we should be seeing some performance stuff... hopefully soon! |

it is the same motor. The 4.7 V8 is the same for dodge and Jeep, the 3.7 is the same as a 4.7 minus two cylinders. Most parts should be interchangeable. |

Yeah.. That is what I was thinking.. Like the 2.5L and the 4.0L in the Wrangler... I came across this while just surfing the net and was thinking it might fit an older libby... I know it won't work on mine.. But for the 2002 and 2003 owners.. It would be a cool mod.. If it would work... http://www.paxtonauto.com/systems.asp?A ... rt=1201218 Ben |

I doubt that would work due our accessory brackets being different from Jeep to Dodge or vice versa |

Well.. I thought it might be a good idea.. Too bad Kenne Bell quit making their 3.7L kit for the Libby... Ben |

I would expect since Chrysler is now using the 3.7 V6 in so many vehicles that you will see more aftermarket motor parts. You may have to look for Dakota parts and make small modifications to use them. I did find one Dodge supercharger maker who was working on one for the 3.7 for the Dakota. I will see if I can find the link. |

I think i would prefer a 4.7 swap kit from advance adaptors. Wasn't there a problem with superchargers on 3.7? something requiring a bottom end rebuild? I thought that was part of the problem with the Kenne Bell kit |

The Ken Belle kits biggest problem was demand. I believe some engine internals would have to be upraded as well. If you want a ton of engine info talk to KYLiberty. He has a ton of engine mods and I believe is in the works of even bigger and better things. |

I am not sure if I am ready to swap out the engine just yet.. I only turned 1000 miles on it.. I am just in the market for pretty much bolt on products for now.. And yes, the Kenne Bell or any super charger is expensive, but you can gain some extra horses and torque without having to do too many mods and hardly put on any weight... Hopefully there will be plenty of mods stuff down the road as the Libby gets older... For now a nice set of headers/Cat back system and a cold air intake would be nice... Ben |

Well I'm sure we could run just a little boost so we could get something like 245 at the flywheel and not the 295 the Kenne Bell did and be okay. However, for 4500 dollars i would like alot more than just 35 horses. |

I believe there was a problem with the piston rings and superchargers. . Kylibby will tell you all about im sure. |

I think the piston ring thing is right, they kept burning them up or something, it would have required significant modifications to the bottom end. |

Yes guys the problem is the piston rings. Not really the ring itself but its location. Mounted too high on the piston and it self destructs under the squeeze. The only real bottom end modification is new pistons with lower top ring landings. Not an easy task but Once that's done and the supercharger is in place, I'm told it's an ANIMAL. So look out... |

can't just install different pistons with lower rings? |

Hmmm.... That is alot of work to do that but easier to do then drop in a different motor... I was wondering why Kenne Bell stopped the sale of their super charger kit.. Ben |

well at the time they were building the kit, the KJ was fairly new on the market, say you had just spent $3000 on a down payment and just traded in whatever you were driving. How would your finances look? Would you be able to afford a say $4000 supercharger kit? No I don't know what the retail price was of the kit, but it looks like that seems to be a safe bet when compared to other kits on the market for similar drivetrains (dakota 3.7). Say you could afford the kit. Would you want to invest in the labor and parts required to install it? Say you did and built your bottom end to handle the blower, now name the some other people willing to do this when the vehicle is only 6 months old (about the time Kenne Bell came out with the kit). The point is manufacturing requires that a lot of products must be sold in order to profit from the selling of the kit. Yes you could price the kit so that one kit would create profit, but who would buy your $100,000 kit? Not many. At the factory where I work (http://www.konradmarine), we need to make sure demand is there for a product before we can sell it. If we sell a product we loose money on, we up a you know what creek with out a paddle. Sorry, it's just the way things work. |
