Post subject:  Broken Window Regulator Data Needed (KJ only)

My third window regulator broke over the weekend, and I found out that I can replace the old part myself for about $60, or upgrade to the "new and improved" parts and have the dealer fix it for $600. I was talking to a friend of mine who is an attorney. In the past, he has represented businesses and individuals who have filed claims against automotive and auto parts companies for safety and design issues. He thought that this might be worth looking into for possible class action. I know that there have been many messages posted from people who have had the same problem with the KJ Liberty regulators, but wondered if we could get everything consolidated to one topic string so that I can provide some good data for him. If you have had regulator problems, please respond to this posting with:

1) Was your KJ Liberty manufactured before or after 2/25/2006? (a "new" regulator setup was used starting with those KJs manufactured on 2/25/2006)
2) How many regulators, and on which window(s)?
3) Under warranty or not, and how much it cost you to fix?

Steer as many people to this posting as you can. Maybe we can get some action on this obvious design flaw.

My '06 was made in April of 2006 and is on the third regulator and it is acting up again. The first two were free under waranty but this one will not be. I bought the extended warranty so we shall see.

04 rear passenger window regulator about $300.00 out of warranty. The weird thing is this window had only been rolled down about 6 times before it broke.

Manufactured after 2/25/2006.
One or two of the four, maybe five (I've lost count) fixed under warranty.

Just remember that a broken window regulator is not a SAFETY issue, that will be a big hit against any type of action taken.

Suppose suing Chrysler for crappy OEM batteries will be next  .

i posted the following in the warranty section a couple of weeks ago. how do i find out when my 06 renegade was built? the "wobble" i was talking about below is still there even after the "new & inproved" regulators were installed. i'll be keeping my eye on them while the warranty is still in effect for sure & yes, i believe chrysler should recall all liberty's for this safety issue or not.

just got my 06 renny, 2/09, & the drivers window came off track (happened to my 04 too). the dealership had to replace it with a new "upgraded" regulator which required the window glass be replaced as well, which sucks cause my windows were tinted. it's still under warranty so i had no issue there but they said it's NOT under a recall. that worried me cause if the passenger side goes after the warranty is up (9,000 more miles) it would cost a small fortune to replace the regulator & glass. anywho....i brought to there attention a slight wobble in the passenger side window & asked them to replace it now as well & they said they would. they had to order the parts (including some sticker thay said had to be put on). it took about a week & a half but the parts are finally in & the renny goes in saturday to get fixed.....then back to the tint place to re-tint the windows....again. i don't know if it's just an 06 model thing with the glass having to be replaced, my 04 only needed the regulator, but if you guys are having even the slightest issue & you still have a warranty, get your liberty to a jeep dealer NOW!!!!! sure hope there's no rear window issues!!!

peace!

Look at the sticker on the inside edge(door jam) of the drivers door. There is a build date, but if you look at the bottome of that sticker there is a MDH #,that is a more specific build date,it stands for Month/Day/Hour.

Go look in the polls sections and you will find a poll I did on model years and who has had broken window regulators. That can give you an idea of what years are having the most problems.

Just for the record, safety doesn't have to be apart of a lawsuit against a auto mfg. Allow me to refresh your memory... "Lemon Laws".

Doesn't effect a recall being issued, and yes it can give the automaker a advantage since it is nbot a safety or major component(IE engine, tranny).I have yet to see anyone "lemon law" there KJ due to the regulators,99% of the time when they fail it is way beyond any lemon law criteria(IE mileage, time).

The regulators in the KJ's is nothing compared to others. You want a huge concern you should pursue legal action if you own a '04-'06 Dodge minivan, those lugnuts are very unsafe  .
