http://videos.streetfire.net/video/How-NOT-to-pull-a-truck_640120.htm How many of yous strap onto your rear axle because you don't have a recovery point? I assume the SFA guys are automatically smarter than this! |

Thats why if someone does not have recovery points of some kind I never hook to them, seen something like this happen before, of course beer and real stupidity was involved, tried to stop them but you can't stop big Chevy trucks and beer powered rednecks |

true but the way he was in there not good tow points to hook to, plus they didn't know what they were doing as you can tell |

Looks like they are using a tow point, the front axle just snaps of. Never heared of a shovel? |

You should see them in the longer version, after they get it unstuck they try to drag it up onto the road with the axle stuck under it. First its a very simple problem to start with, pull on the body with the axle that far buried and huge amount of stress is going to put on control arms when you jerk it, its like driving into a concrete barrier and expecting to be able to get over it. Second, jerking rarely leads to good things, dynamic loading like that often exceeds the instantaneous load something is capable of taking, yes I know, jerking is usually the only way to get something out, but if a small jerk isn't working chances are a bigger one is just going to damage something. Getting a bigger hammer isn't always the solution. |

Never heared of a shovel? They are hooked onto the recovery point on the bumper on the passenger side... he was just too stuck for a pull from the direction they were trying to pull from... They should have tried to bring him backwards... |

I don't know a lot about off-roading but my choice would have been to pull from the rear b/c that hole was obviously too deep on the one side to even think of pulling from the direction they were going. |

Good gosh, thats purely insane. They were using the bumper as the tow point but the axle was sunk up in the mud. Thought the bumper would come off before it would rip the control arms off like that though! |

Good God! I've never seen anything so insane in my life. Seeing that happen to a that XJ made me sick. I can only imagine what might have been on the other end of that tow strap. |

are you guys being sarcastic about the axle being the best bet? i would NEVER let someone strap to my axle on my jeep for a recovery. those guys were stupid for standing on the back of the jeep too, could have ended up much worse. what a bunch of idiots |

No I am not, think about how this thing is loaded, with the way it is dug in pulling on the bumper will actually force the axle even further down into that muck. Now, its not like the axle was easily accessible, and pulling from that direction is just about the worse way you could pull. But if you look at the longer version they tried pulling from the rear, with no sucess. Though I dont know what possesed them to try and jerk on the front. Now if they were trying to recover off the rear, then that would be silly to jerk on the axle. |

The video footage was great................ although, I don’t feel sorry for the fool who drove off in the muck in the first place. |
