| Post subject: | Exhaust 3.7 |
I've developed a exhaust leak and today I had the KJ ('02 Limited w/ 3.7) in one of our service garages. While standing in the floor pit, we discovered towards the front of the Y-pipe drivers side behind 1st converter, the are two tabs sticking out the topside of the pipe. Best we could figure these tabs were for a heat shield? Which I do not or no longer have. Meanwhile, where one of these tabs is located a small hole has appeared. It can only be seen using a light and mechanics mirror. Meaning pictures are out of the question here. Yesterday I ordered a Flowmaster 44 diamond plate muffler so we figured to wait until that arrives then the mechanic and I will drop the exhaust pipe, and weld it while doing the muffler at the same time. So the question is, can anyone confirm the purpose of these tabs? I will then guess if they're for a heat shield, I am obviously missing one? |

Arise from the dead, ye ancient thread. I heard chuffing at a drivethrough today; from my car bouncing off the wall. Turns out I also have leaks at the top (both of them) of the headpipe near where it bolts to the cats. I also have what appear to be clips and the leaks are holes around them as if the welds holding them in place have failed. Vastly annoying since I can't do the work myself due to the HOA rules. Another fun expense getting a new headpipe (probably cheaper than getting it welded up around here assuming there's still enough metal to weld). No sign of heat shields there; the cats are wrapped in shields, but not the pipe. |

I used muffler cement. Worked great. |

Worth a shot. Turns out the headpipe/crossover pipe is one piece with the main catalytic converter. IOW probably not at all inexpensive. I'll hit the store tomorrow. |

Quotes in town run $370 - $450 for the part. Cement it is, if it will work. I wish this was on straight sections instead of a curve; it would be a lot easier to fix. I _really_ wish the part was stainless because then this wouldn't be happening... |
