I saw this today when the tire shop was swapping out tires for me. Is that grease supposed to puke out like that??? By the way, this is a pic of the front disk in the pic...

kinda... I'd change out that ball joint ASAP. It wont come apart immediately, but the boot being ruptured will obviously let grease out allowing water to enter, corroding it, then causing it to seperate. not good |

Well I'd be aiming more for a tie rod end... and therefore an alignment after. |

Yes. That is the tie rod end. I don't suppose you can just replace the ball joint in the tie rod? Have to replace the whole piece? OEM, or is there a better or preferred aftermarket option for that? I am still under my 3/36 warranty. Should that be covered under warranty, or are they going to say me adding a Daystar lift caused the problem? |

You should be able to just have the ball joint pressed out... I don't know why you would have to have the whole tie rod end. and it depends on your dealer, but most likely they will try to get out of paying for it |

You can not have the ball joint pressed out of the tie rod ends, they are like the OEM UCA's you must replace the whole assembly. They are cheap and super easy to replace(on a KJ would take only about 5mins max to replace),the alignment costs more then the tie rod end.

Quote: glad to know so do you just take it off the knuckle and unthread it?
Correct. May need a "pickle fork" to remove tie rod from the knuckle. Should be rentable from autozone. When you remove/unthread the old one, make sure you count the rotations. Then when you put the new one on, you screw it on the same number of rotations as the old one did unscrewing off. This will get you close to the same set-up for front alignment until you can get the front aligned. |

Sounds like a nice easy fix. I have to stop by the dealer tomorrow anyway to pick up the 06 Tranny Dip stick that I ordered. (They deleted that dipstick on the 07's) I will just check with the service writer when I go in to see if it is covered under warranty. If so, great. They can fix it and then they can align it too under warranty. If not, I'll spend 30 Minutes doing it myself. |

screw the pickle fork, just take a hammer and give the knuckle a good whack to separate it |

I have separated it before. Just a little tap with the brass hammer and it came right off. No need for the fork. |
