Well, I have no idea how this happens. Looks mostly like an unlucky rock while on a highway, but very strange angle. Can't see how it could be a rear-end hit, but I do know that while driving 100 km/h, I heard a bang and saw a red thing fly in the air behind me in the side mirror. I figured I ran over something, but couldn't remember seeing it ahead of me. Just noticed it maybe a week later while at the fabricator's garage.

What do I do to fix this for the least $$$??

ebay or a salvage, I busted 2 taillights and I paid $50 for each one and one was from ebay and the other was from a salvage.

Finding a single light with the airdam like you have is going to be a chore, might end up being cheaper to buy a set unless you get lucky. Fortunately you may be able to sell your single to off set your new ones.

I have a single spare stock, but it isn't going to match your remaining one.

My wife backed into a Civic and busted my driver side one to pieces. Put a nice dent in the bumper I had to pop out. Kinda weird actually since it broke the guard in like 4 pieces but the light wasn't harmed at all. I feel sorry for any Civic my wife runs over now though.

ThunderbirdJunkie picked up a pair of 05-7 KJ taillights from fleabay for $65 shipped. Pretty sweet deal, ITBJHO.

Your results may vary

Okay, I know I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed, but I can't figure this out.

Are the tail light guards i have "air dams?"

Most of the replacement lights I see online all say one of two things: W/O Air Dam, and NOT COMPATIBLE WITH TAIL LIGHT GUARDS.

So basically, I guess my lowest cost option is two new lights and scrap the tail light guards? Where is the air dam, how do i recognize it??

Thanks

Okay I found one with the "air dam" and tail light guard. http://usautolighting.com/product/2261/

Still don't understand what the air dam is though.

Haha, thats not a dam Air Dam, its just a fake tail light guard. Usually they are there to keep the tail lights from getting, get this, broken. :D

And here I thought that by removing the guards I would disrupt the air flow over the jeep and ruin my AMAZING fuel mileage...13-14 MPG!

I believe the tail lights on your jeep have the tail light and guard as one piece, can not seperate. When looking at buying these myself I always saw that style refered to as w/airdam.

Where as you can get guards that you put on the standard tail lights that look similiar but are not part of the tail light. (This is what I have)

Why the one piece (guard+tail light) are refered to as "with air dam" I have no idea.

I know when mine broke and I removed the rest of it, little chunks of plastic were taken out of the tail light when I pulled it off. They were melted together or something. Now there are little spots on my lights where the plastic is jacked up because I removed them .
