Can't find my manual - does anyone know what the weight limitation for the rear gate is? I found this spare tire mounted bike rack that will work perfect for carrying my jerry can and a shovel, but with the weight of the spare, plus a full jerry, I am not sure if that will be too heavy. Don't want to bugger anything up. |

I don't know of a weight limitation, but I wouldn't put anything heavier than the spare back there. |

I don't know the technical weight limitation on the rear gate. But I have the Thule SpareMe bike rack and just having two mountain bikes on there makes me nervous. It's stable when the door is closed, but there would be an incredible amount of stress placed on those hinges if the door were opened with that extra weight on there. I put my bikes on last (after the read gate is closed, drive to the destination, and take them off before opening the rear door. |

I have the Mopar spare mount bike rack and haven't had any problems opening and closing the rear gate with two bikes on there. My brother (150 lbs.) sat on the spare while I backed out of a narrow trail that was blocked by a large, fallen tree. Again, no problems. |

Found the manual in my desk at work Man thats not mutch to play with. I'm thinking I'll be ok with a jerry can of gas and the spare, but thats probably it. Anyone know what the spare weights for a Renny? |

I've been wondering about this also. Hey you guys that switched the Rubicon Take off wheels & tires, how's your tailgate holding up?? I don't have mine mounted up yet, but they seem pretty heavy, and it's making me nervous. Any reason for concern? Rick |

I have no problems so far w/ Rubi wheel & tire on rear gate. If it states 50 lbs though, you are At that or more w/ a 245/75-16 MT/R and wheel. A can of gas added and you are pushing your luck. All the bouncing from wheeling would really stress the door out. You could do like Clint and stuff the tire somewhere else, roof rack or inside, and put a can mount back there in place of the tire. |

We need one of those rienforcing kits that they sell for TJ's to strengthen the rear gate. ..... yep I think I'll be doin what Clint does. |
