those directions were awesome except for this part: For the remaining wire (Blue/White), simply find a wire that is only receiving power (is "hot") when the ignition is turned to "on". Use a test light to find a wire and splice the blue/white wire into it. |

I chose poorly the first time and drained my battery, but chose wisely the 2nd time. If you have an earlier model kj, then you have a cig lighter and a power port. One of those is on all the time and one turns off with the ignition. Just use a phone charger or something to find out which one cause i cant remember. But, thats what I used. More recently, I installed an evic in my dads '05. His only has the power port, no cig lighter. That port always has power, so I was out of luck. I tried to find a wire and chose poorly. Drained his batt. So, I just told him to unhook it until I get a chance to get to his house again and fix it. I have no idea what wire to use on his, so I'm in the same boat as you. |

both my cig lighter and power port get power all the time, except the cig lighter briefly loses power when you turn off the key unfortunatley for radio use they're dirty and pick up alternator noise and what not, i'm sure theyed work ok for evics and things post pics when ya done i love seein stuff people add |

I would not be messing with any of the wires for the OBDII port, more problems then you want can occur.Plus if you tap into those wires any electrical(and possible the entire warranty) will be voided since that is the main diagnosis port for the entire vehicle. If you have emission testing that could automatically fail you also. |

i used the method described in the instructions and have not had any problems so far. Its been installed for over a year, I'm pretty sure. My warranty is long past, so I dont have concerns about that. I live in an Ohio E-Check county and have to have an emissions test every year which have passed without problems. I understand how using the OBDII could cause issues however. |

got back from school after my last final and the fun began. this is the unit i got.
took out the old one first
cut a bigger hole:
and hooked up the wiring to the new one
Ran the wires via the A-pillar and down by the fusebox
then spliced in by the OBDII plug
Then got the power from the cigarette lighter (turns off with ignition off)
of course i spliced into the wrong lighter wire so i had to redo it. this is the finished product. seems to work great except for the temperature sensor which will be installed soon

no the only thing that was up there was the plug for the reading lights. i had to run the wires from the new unit and put electrical tape around them so they dont rattle around so it looks like it was there but i had to make it. ran it across the headliner and down the a pillar then by the fuse box and finally behind the dash to the obdII plug and cigarette lighter.
this is the wire i had to extend about 10ft |
