| Post subject: | Hi-Lift Jack question |
Is it okay to use a hi-lift jack on the front crossmember frame (the one behind the front bumper cover)?? It about 3/16" thick and not boxed. I don't have a front bumper on my Jeep currently and just got a hi-lift jack and want to use it. Also I assume the jack does not come lubricated. Is it okay to use "Liquid Wrench White Lithium Grease" http://www.gunk.com/item_details.asp Thanks! |

This is what i have. Works better than the bumper if you are just trying to get unstuck. Also, if you are changing the tire just brink a jack stand with you. Lift it up with the hilift and set it on the jack stand. |

Phxtoad has a design that works without rockrails - I would be hesitant to use the hi-lift without something. http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?p=3521#3521

Great alternatives! But can someone answer my original question. I would like to jack it up from the front crossmember, is there a chance of bending it? |

I would be hesitant to do it - even though the metal is reasonably thick I would say you'll have a good chance of deforming it if you try and lift the Jeep there, particularly because of the added weight of the engine. If you can put a piece of 1x2 under the metal to spread out the force it *might* work, but I'd rather go under the frame or a control arm. |

How would you even do that? I don't think the hi-lift reaches that far underneath. You would be jacking up against the rocker and that would crush it. You would be better off to get some rock rails and use that to jack from if you want to go that route. |

A lot of good ideas here, I wouldn't try and lift from the bumper, to many chances to damage it and fall. |

Thanks for all your comments, I was planning on getting some rocker rails soon, so I'll use that. I still need to get a floor jack for home use. |
